Shamier Anderson and Stephan James
Brothers Shamier Anderson and Stephan James receive many accolades for their growing list of roles on film and television. Shamier graduated from Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts and has excelled in numerous notable roles ranging from “Tracker” in John Wick 4 to “Trevante Cole” on Invasion, now streaming on AppleTV+. Stephan has held the honor of portraying several real-life figures in African American history. He starred as Olympics hero Jesse Owens in Race, directed by Stephen Hopkins, for which he received an NAACP Image Award nomination and won a Canadian Screen Award. He also portrayed Walter Cruz opposite Julia Roberts in Amazon Prime’s series Homecoming, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.
Shamier and Stephan are co-founders of their production company Bay Mills Studios, which produced The Legacy Awards on CBC, Canada’s first and only nationally broadcast award show celebrating Black Canadian excellence.
Rowan Barrett
This graduate of West Hill High School has turned his time as prominent St. John’s University team member into a career, as a player leading many international leagues in scoring before becoming a top-level Canadian basketball executive. Currently as general manager of Canada’s men’s team he has led the squad to the 2024 Olympics and provides the inspiration for many young Canadians to excel at the sport he loves – including his son, current Toronto Raptor RJ Barrett.
Pauline Browes
The contributions of Pauline Browes to the Scarborough community are diverse and many. She has long been tied to community advocacy for health, wildlife preservation and causes in support of Rouge Park and the Rouge Valley. A long-times MP for Scarborough Centre she served under Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney and Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell.
Camesha Cox
Camesha Cox is a passionate champion of literacy and the founding director of The Reading Partnership (TRP) – a community-based literacy project aimed at promoting and improving literacy in Toronto’s most under-resourced communities. Reading Partnership for Parents has been offered to families in the Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park community in East Scarborough concentrating on the areas she calls home – an area that has a high poverty rate and is home to the highest concentration of social housing in Toronto.
Sam Ibrahim
Scarborough-raised Sam Ibrahim is the president and managing director of the Arrow Group of Companies, a collection of more than 20 corporations with a range of interests, including scientific research, diversified finance, temporary labour, health and wellness, sports and recreation and professional basketball. A self-made business magnet, his Arrow Group has become one of Canada’s largest private corporations. It employs more than 10,000 people and operates on four continents. The Sam Ibrahim Centre of Inclusive Excellence in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Leadership provides students with world class access to greater opportunities in Scarborough.
Marg Middleton
If it needs doing in Scarborough then chances are Marg Middleton has been a catalyst for the solution. Through a lifelong attachment to Scarborough, Marg has been a founding member of numerous organizations including the Scarborough Women of Philanthropy, Scarborough Walk of Fame and was founding president of the Scarborough Business Association, after years contributing to the now defunct Scarborough Chamber of Commerce. Marg is well known for putting community above self.
Dr. Vivian Rambihar
Dr. Vivian Rambihar is a Scarborough cardiologist and role model. He is an adjunct professor of medicine at the University of Toronto, author and community leader. He has served Scarborough as a cardiologist for more than 40 years and is recognized for pioneering global contributions to medicine, science, society and humanity.
Mark Stoddart
An Internationally renowned graphic artist. This Cedarbrae Collegiate Institute graduate has never forgotten his love and attachment to Scarborough. He remains an active partner with a long list of community organizations including Rise Edutainment and Tropicana Community Services. He has placed an emphasis on working with elementary, high school and college students in the community. His art is in the collection of notables including raptor president Masai Ujiri, Director Spike Lee and Olympian Dr. John Carlos.
