What is JAM? JAM – Junction Arts & Media is CATV's new location and name reflecting our expanding role supporting local content creators across media platforms and through in-person media arts exhibits, activities, and events. | |

Creepy double creature feature
If you've been feeling dead lately, this double feature on JAM may reanimate you. Check out James Whale's masterpieces—1931's Frankenstein and its arguably better and creepier 1935 sequel Bride of Frankenstein. Betrothed Elsa Lanchester (best hairdo ever!) takes one look at monster Boris Karloff and wishes she were dead. No problem.

Die in the green
JAM has you covered this Halloween weekend. Literally. Vermont has pioneered green burials, thanks in part to end-of-life specialist Michelle Acciavatti, co-founder of the Vermont Forest Cemetery in Roxbury. It's a serious subject, but we think you may 'dig' her recent OLLI lecture in St. Johnsbury.

Scary Stories
For local ghoulish laughs, let us take you back to AVA's 2017 Mudroom on the theme: Scary Stories. Hear tales of the bicycle race from hell (or at least heck), flying through a thunderstorm, and a teacher's terrifying time in Tibet.
Plus, do you want to know Vermont's top 10 haunted places? We've got you 'covered' there, too.
| |
The Worst of Horror
And JAM's own Nick Arvizu has some scares for you in "A Couple of Flicks," which dives deep into the terror of some of the world's worst movies, including Exorcist 2 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022). So, heat up some pea soup and rev your engine for true home-grown schlockertainment.

Time flies

A listener asked via instagram for "new cozy mysteries." The booksellers admitted they're not big cozy mystery readers themselves, yet they had good tips for books in the genre including Shady Hollow Series, by Juneau Black; Death in Door Country, by Annelise Ryan, and Killers of a Certain Age, by Deanna Raybourn.
Shelf Help is a collaboration between the Book Jam, a nonprofit designed to inspire readers; JAM, Yankee Bookshop; the Norwich Bookstore; and Still North Books & Bar.
