BRUSH COLLECTION BEGINS APRIL 22

The village’s 2024 brush collection program will begin on Monday, April 22 and will offer two collection cycles for each zone until the program ends in September. The collection zones are rotated in the pickup schedule each year.

Residents are asked to follow the collection schedule shown above and listed on the village’s website. No appointments are necessary. This program is open to single-family residences only; contractor-generated brush will not be collected.

Brush must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your scheduled week. Branches cannot have root material attached and are to be neatly placed curbside with the cut ends toward the street. Unorganized or tangled brush piles will not be collected. For more information, visit the website, dial 311 in the village, or call (847) 895-4500.

Submitted works will be exhibited and for sale in the Herb Aigner Gallery inside the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts May 14 - June 23, and will coincide with the Prairie Arts Festival, which will be held Memorial Day weekend (May 25-26) on the grounds of the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center. The deadline to enter is Sunday, April 21. Works are to be completed between April 26 and May 10. For more information, visit the Prairie Center's website.

HEALTH SERVICES NEEDS ASSESSMENT UPDATE

The village recently completed Phase I of a Health Services Needs Assessment (HSNA) to assess existing health services and to understand future needs of the community. The assessment was completed using American Rescue Plan Act funds.

Through the completion of this phase, several key strengths, assets, and areas of improvement were identified, including:

  • Community Strengths and Assets: Strong collaboration between government agencies; diverse community; many green spaces; strong business community; strong response to COVID; and many nonprofits and government agencies available to fulfill essential public health services.
  • Social Determinants of Health Facing Residents: Transportation and public transit barriers; housing cost challenges; language barriers; and challenges accessing, affording, and understanding health insurance.
  • Health and Social Service Capacity and Opportunities for Improvement: Workforce challenges; growing demand for mental health services and services for older adults, adults with disabilities, and young people; opportunity for more health service facilities, access points, preventative services, and for bringing services closer to residents; and opportunity to increase communication, outreach and collaboration.

The village will begin Phase II of the assessment in which a Community Health Improvement Plan will be created that will prioritize issues and evaluate strategies to address service gaps in partnership with community partners. For more information on the assessment, please dial 311 in the village or visit the website.

OASIS Program Provides Friendly Phone Calls

Did you know that the Village of Schaumburg has a friendly phone call program for seniors and residents with disabilities who may feel isolated? The OASIS (Older Adult Services in Schaumburg) program starts with phone calls that may progress to in-person visits if both parties agree. If you or someone you know could benefit from a friendly phone call, contact Kathy Henkelman by calling (847) 923-3760 or by email to be connected with an OASIS program volunteer.

Northwest Cook Transit Study

How do you travel around your community? We want to hear from you! Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is conducting a survey of people’s travel choices in the Northwest Cook County Area. CMAP is partnering with several agencies, including the Village of Schaumburg, the Village of Hoffman Estates, Hanover Township, Palatine Township, Schaumburg Township, Pace Suburban Bus, and Harper College. The survey results will be incorporated into the Northwest Cook Transit Study, which will provide recommendations for more effective, efficient and coordinated transit services. Please consider completing a brief survey to help improve our region. For more information on the study, visit CMAP's website.

Weather Advisory/Watch/Warning - What's the Difference?

Do you know the difference between a weather advisory, watch, and warning? It is essential to know these terms so you can take proper action in inclement weather.

  • Advisory - The condition is occurring, imminent, or likely, but is more informational and not severe.
  • Watch - The condition is possible within a large area and a long time frame, and people should be prepared to take action.
  • Warning - The condition is occurring, imminent, or likely within a smaller area and a shorter time frame and poses a threat to life or property.

Be sure to have multiple methods of receiving emergency alerts, such as major television networks, weather apps on your phone, and wireless emergency alerts (WEA). Learn how you can prepare for severe weather online.

Metra crews may be in the area as they prepare to replace their signals and build the new pedestrian signal crossing at the railroad tracks. Please continue to follow the posted detour that routes traffic along Irving Park Road, Roselle Road and Central Avenue. This project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
