Congratulations to the 2023 Volunteer of the Year Award winners who were recognized at the 35th Volunteer of the Year Award luncheon held April 18 at Chandler’s Banquets. The winners include:
- William Clark, Volunteer of the Year
- Hindu Swaymsevak Sangh USA – Schaumburg Chapter (HSS), Organization of the Year
- Anmay Gupta, Youth Volunteer of the Year
All nominees were invited to the annual luncheon that featured keynote speaker, Patricia Wilson, TED Speaker and former CEO of Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area who spoke about several successful volunteer projects in which she helped spearhead and coordinate. One of her more well-known projects includes making a childhood wish come true for cancer survivor Miles Scott who got an opportunity to be Batkid for the day in San Francisco – an idea that went viral and resulted in one of the largest and most elaborate Make-A-Wish projects ever staged.
The village wishes to thank all the volunteers who were nominated and awarded; your selfless contributions to the Schaumburg community are very much appreciated. For more information on the Volunteer of the Year nominees and winners, visit the village's website.

VILLAGE HOSTS UNITE FAIR FOR EMPLOYEES
Did you know April is Celebrate Diversity Month? In celebration of Schaumburg’s immigrant population, the village’s VOICE Committee recently held its 2023 UNITE Fair. The UNITE (Understanding our Neighbors Individuality Through Education) initiative helps educate village employees so that we can gain a better understanding of the diverse people we serve.
The fair allowed employees to sample traditional foods from India, Poland, Mexico and Japan, the top countries of origin for the village’s immigrant population. Food items included samosas, paneer masala sandwiches, chicken masala wraps, pierogi, tacos de asada, tacos de al pastor, tacos de pollo, pork gyoza dumplings, and spring rolls.
Traditional attire and other elements were also on display so attendees could learn more about each country’s culture. Employees even had an opportunity to sharpen their Spanish language skills by playing a game of Loteria (Mexican Bingo).

Recycle Textiles With Simple Recycling
Are you wondering what to do with clothing, towels, or other textiles that have reached the end of their useful life? Avoid sending them to the landfill and give textiles new life by using the free textile recycling program, Simple Recycling. Clothing and textiles require a lot of resources to make, including water, fertilizer, and pesticides for growing natural fibers like cotton, as well as petroleum to make synthetic fibers. When we reuse and recycle textiles, it conserves these resources and keeps items out of the trash, which is good for the environment. Simple Recycling provides free pickup services, which can be scheduled online or by calling (866) 835-5068. For more information, visit the website.
