SCHAUMBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES ISO CLASS 1 RATING

The Schaumburg Fire Department is proud to announce that for the first time in its history, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) has awarded the department an ISO Class 1 Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating, the highest that can be achieved. This classification demonstrates the department’s ability to provide the best in emergency response and community risk reduction.

The Schaumburg Fire Department joins 28 other communities in Illinois that have an ISO 1 rating. Schaumburg is also one of six communities in Illinois and joins 124 communities in the United States that have both an ISO 1 rating and have achieved accreditation status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). Accredited agencies are often described as being community-focused, data-driven, outcome-focused, strategic-minded, well organized, properly equipped, and properly staffed and trained.

To achieve the ISO 1 rating, the fire department made several improvements that included enhancing documentation of all training activity, increasing its live fire training, completing pre-response plans for all commercial and industrial buildings, and reassigning a ladder truck from Station 53 to 51 for better aerial ladder coverage, among others.

Village Welcomes Students for Youth in Government Day

The Village of Schaumburg recently welcomed nearly 40 Schaumburg High School students who met with staff and elected officials to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of local government as part of Youth in Government Day. Students were welcomed by Village President Tom Dailly before forming into groups to meet and tour various departments based on their interests. The purpose of the visit was to expose students to the programs and services provided by local government and discuss potential careers available to them. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions, discuss with elected officials what led them to serve the Schaumburg community, and offer valuable insight into the areas they would like to see improved in Schaumburg.

Schaumburg Police Department "Plants" Pinwheel Garden for Child Abuse Prevention Month

Child abuse is a horrific experience with potentially lasting effects. It’s also, unfortunately, a common experience in America. More than 600,000 children are abused in the U.S. each year. To help spread awareness during Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Schaumburg Police Department partnered with The Children's Advocacy Center to display a Pinwheel Garden at the Martin J. Conroy Police Department located at 1000 W. Schaumburg Rd. The pinwheels are meant to symbolize the positive childhood every kid deserves and to serve as a reminder that prevention is possible if we are brave enough to intervene. Plant hope this April by purchasing a pinwheel garden online or donating to the cause.

Distracted Driving Awareness Month

In 2021, distracted driving killed 3,522 people. April, which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, is a good time to regroup and take responsibility for the choices we make when we’re on the road. Follow these tips for a safe ride:

  • If you need to send a text, pull over and park your car in a safe location.
  • Designate a passenger as your “designated texter” to respond to calls or messages.
  • Do not scroll through apps while driving. Struggling not to text and drive? Put the cell phone in the trunk, glove box, or back seat of the vehicle until you arrive at your destination.

Throughout April, expect to see increased patrols looking for texting and driving as well as other traffic violations. Pay attention or pay the price.

Brush Collection Begins April 22

The village’s 2024 brush collection program will begin on Monday, April 22 and will offer two collection cycles for each zone until the program ends in September. The collection zones are rotated in the pickup schedule each year.

No appointments are necessary. This program is open to single family residences only; contractor-generated brush will not be collected. Brush must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your scheduled week. It may take crews up to five days to complete collection in each zone.

Branches cannot have root material attached and are to be neatly placed curbside with the cut ends toward the street. Unorganized or tangled brush piles will not be collected. For more information, visit the website or dial 311 in Schaumburg.
