COMMUNITY RECYCLING EVENT APRIL 15
The Community Recycling Event is back just in time for spring cleaning! The greater community is invited to bring their recyclables for the event taking place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 in the Wintrust Field West Parking Lot, 1999 S. Springinsguth Rd. 

Items accepted at the recycling event include document destruction of up to two boxes per vehicle, electronics and small appliances, clothing and household textiles, batteries, books, bicycles, motor oil, CFL bulbs, American flags, and fire extinguishers. Televisions and monitors, oil and latex-based paints, and antifreeze are accepted with a fee. Paint thinner, gas, cooking oil and other hazardous waste will not be accepted at this event.

THE QUIN APARTMENTS HOSTS RIBBON CUTTING
On April 4, The Quin by The Finger Companies hosted a ribbon cutting to kick off the leasing of the upscale apartment units located near the intersection of Algonquin and Plum Grove Roads.

The development includes amenities such as:
  • 2.5 Acres of enclosed green space with walking paths and picnic areas
  • Two resort style pools and three lushly landscaped courtyards
  • Outdoor kitchens and firepit
  • Two gated dog parks with onsite pet grooming station

With the addition of 373 apartments at The Quin, there has now been more than 1,000 residential units brought to North Schaumburg within the past five years. SCHAUMBURG POST OFFICE DEDICATION CEREMONY
On April 3, Village President Tom Dailly and village trustees, local veterans, and other government officials participated in a dedication ceremony to rename the Schaumburg U.S. Post Office as the Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial Post Office Building. The Schaumburg post office is the first in the nation named in honor of the veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The official plaque will be on display in the lobby of the facility located at 450 W. Schaumburg Rd.
SWANS HAVE RETURNED TO MUNICIPAL CENTER
They're back! The village is happy to welcome back its pair of Mated Mute Swans, Louis and Serena, to the municipal center pond and grounds. Please remember not to feed the swans as human food can be dangerous to their health. Fishing is also prohibited while the swans are at the pond. You can enjoy them in person or view them on the Swan Cam any time on the village’s website.

Support Our Seniors Council Provides Community Resources for Memory Loss
Join the Support Our Seniors Council to learn about local community resources for those experiencing memory loss through the fictional account of Alice, as she progresses through the stages of dementia. The presentation is suitable for those facing memory loss and/or their caregivers and families. Resources from the following organizations will be highlighted:
  • Village of Schaumburg Police and Fire Departments; Nursing & Senior Services Division
  • Schaumburg Township District Library
  • Local Senior Supportive Service Agencies
  • Assisted Living and Memory Care facilities
  • Geropsychiatric Services
  • Kenneth Young Center Older Adult Services

Village Proclaims National Community Development Association Week
On March 28, the village signed a proclamation for National Community Development Association (NCDA) week (April 10-14). NCDA week acknowledges and celebrates the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. CDBG funds are allocated to the village on an annual basis from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist low- and moderate-income residents. The village uses CDBG funds for various programs and projects including public infrastructure improvements, public facilities, funds for non-profit agencies, economic development, and housing programs. Funds are available now for the Handyworker Program, the Residential Rehabilitation Program, and the Small Business Assistance Program. For more information on the CDBG Program and available funds, visit the village's website.
Garden Club Sale Starts Now!
Turn your average suburban yard into a native haven attracting birds, butterflies, and other pollinators that benefit wildlife. The Schaumburg Garden Club is now taking orders for its annual plant sale through April 21. Prairie plants, woodland wildflowers, grasses and sedges, trees and shrubs, and non-native plants are available for purchase. Master gardeners will be available at time of pickup to answer questions regarding plants and gardening. Plant pickup is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 at the Spring Valley Nature Center, located at 1111 E. Schaumburg Rd. Save the Date: Prairie Arts Festival May 27-28
The 34th Annual Prairie Arts Festival Fine Art & Fine Craft Exhibition and Sale will be held over Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-28. The event will be held outdoors on the grounds of the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center located at 101 Schaumburg Ct. Additional information on this year's festival can be found on the Prairie Center's website. Advertisement space in this year's program book is now available for businesses and organizations. Program advertising is an excellent way of promoting business and supporting the community.
