SCHAUMBURG MAINTAINS HIGHEST CREDIT RATING
The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce that the financial services firm S&P Global Ratings (S&P) has reaffirmed the village’s AAA bond rating, which is the highest rating a municipality can attain.

The rating is reflective of the following as noted in the report:

  • Resilient local economy with favorable prospects for continued residential, commercial and industrial growth and development
  • Strong and proactive management with good financial policies and practices
  • Positive financial operations due to management’s pre-emptive measures to stabilize the budget, which has resulted in strong reserve levels and liquidity
  • A manageable debt and contingency liability profile

S&P has indicated the village’s outlook is stable based on the expectation that Schaumburg will maintain balanced financial operations.

In the most recent National Community Survey taken in 2021, 95 percent of resident respondents rated the village as an excellent or good place to live. Residents also pointed to the local economy as one of Schaumburg’s strengths, with 91 percent of residents providing positive rankings to Schaumburg’s overall economic health. Schaumburg exceeded national benchmarks for the quality of businesses and services, economic development, business and service variety, the vibrancy of commercial areas, and as a place to work.

Schaumburg’s government ratings also remain strong with 80 percent of respondents expressing an overall confidence in Schaumburg’s government and 82 percent responding favorably to the overall direction that Schaumburg is taking. S&P’s reaffirmation of Schaumburg’s excellent credit quality and strong financial oversight is a reflection of community confidence as well.
SUMMIT DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS
Work on the final phase of the Summit Drive resurfacing project has wrapped up recently for the area north of Weathersfield Way to Schaumburg Road. Improvements consisted of milling and resurfacing Summit Drive along with spot curb repairs and installation of handicapped ramps at sidewalk crossings that previously did not meet ADA standards.

Similar to the segment that was completed last fall south of Weathersfield, new striping indicates an exclusive bike lane in each direction. In addition, a dedicated parking lane has been added to the west side of the street; parking is restricted for the east side of the street for this section.

The Village of Schaumburg was awarded federal funding to improve Summit Drive which required issues of on-street parking and on-street bike lanes to be addressed as part of the project. The village also took the opportunity to address complaints and concerns regarding bicyclists, pedestrians, and speeding traffic when evaluating design options. The existing cross-section with on-street parking on one side of the street plus on-street bike lanes was selected in order to minimize impacts to parkway trees and utilities while continuing to provide on-street parking and bicycle facilities for residents along Summit Drive. As with any change to infrastructure, it can take some time for motorists to adjust to the new configuration. For more information about this improvement project, dial 311 in the village.
