SISTER CITY NAMERIKAWA, JAPAN VISITS SCHAUMBURG

This week, the Village of Schaumburg welcomed visitors from Namerikawa, Japan as part of the Sister Cities Program. During their visit, Mayor Tatsuo Mizunotero and three delegates of Namerikawa met with the village's elected officials, learned about Schaumburg's economic development, toured the Schaumburg Regional Airport, enjoyed lunch at the Schweikher House, and ended their visit at a Schaumburg Boomers Baseball game at Wintrust Field. The group also toured partner facilities, like the newly renovated Schaumburg Township District Library, Heritage Farm at Spring Valley, and the Schaumburg Park District Sport Center.

Because Schaumburg is home to so many Japanese Americans and Japanese businesses, the village established a relationship with Namerikawa, Toyama Prefecture, Japan on July 4, 1997. Namerikawa has a population of more than 32,000 residents and covers approximately 21 square miles on the northwest coast of Japan. For more information on the Sister Cities Program, visit the website.

CONGRATULATIONS SUCCESSPATH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM GRADUATES

The Village of Schaumburg is committed to investing in the development of exceptional leaders who exemplify the village’s core values of trust, integrity, respect, teamwork, and customer service. The SuccessPath Leadership Development Program was created in 2008 in an effort to retain and promote employees. This unique leadership experience gives participants an opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills through role-play scenarios, learn ways to be better decision-makers, and much more. The program implements a 360° evaluation, goal setting, and assessments for participants to become self-aware of their emotional intelligence (EQ) and adapt their communications style (DiSC) to better connect with colleagues, their team, and Schaumburg residents. SuccessPath participants and alumni are also eligible for tuition reimbursement for master’s degree programs as an added benefit.

Round eight of the SuccessPath Leadership Development Program kicked off last summer. Approximately 13 village employees were nominated by department directors based on criteria that identified them as emerging leaders within the organization. Six participants were selected and successfully completed the program in August 2024. Congratulations to Fire Captain/Paramedic Cory Ball, Human Services Supervisor Kristin Jordan, Community Planner Parth Joshi, Superintendent of Field Services Adrian Marquez, Engineering Division Manager Brent McQueen, and Fire Captain/Paramedic James Schlesser on their accomplishment.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

National Parkway Now Open

With the roadway now open, crews are working to complete final elements of the project. The final portion of American Lane has been paved with asphalt, the sidewalk at the Golf/National intersection is complete, and the landscaper has begun prepping the jobsite for sod and landscaping. Please continue to proceed through the area with caution as there still remains some outstanding construction work to be completed including landscaping, final pavement markings, and median irrigation work.

Information on other village projects can be located on the Construction Dashboard.

Rodenburg Road Reconstruction & Resurfacing

Crews have completed the concrete sidewalk landings throughout the project area with the exception of a few gaps left to fill. Expect to see the new pedestrian path open late next week. The roadway remains closed to traffic until landscaping, pavement markings, signage and the resurfacing from Timberleaf Circle South to Central Avenue is complete.

For additional information, visit the project website.
