FALL CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Meet and interact on a personal level with members of the Schaumburg Police Department by participating in the Citizen Police Academy. The free, 10-week academy offers members of the community an inside look at police department functions. In addition to interesting and informative classroom topics, the academy gives participants the opportunity to have their questions answered, ride along with an on-duty officer, practice mock traffic stops, and conduct room searches.

The session begins Sept. 18 and will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evenings through Nov. 20. Schaumburg residents and employees of Schaumburg businesses ages 18 and older are eligible to participate. Participants must attend 75% of the sessions to be eligible for graduation and to join the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association of Schaumburg.

Space is limited, so be sure to submit your application early. For more information and to apply, visit the village’s website or dial 311 in Schaumburg.

SCHAUMBURG CELEBRATES NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

Despite the rainy conditions, Schaumburg residents showed their community pride during National Night Out on Aug. 6. The village had more than 20 registered parties, including a community-wide event at Meineke Park and one at the senior center inside the Schaumburg Barn. The village's elected officials, police and fire personnel, and public safety volunteers enjoyed the evening spent among friends and neighbors.

Thank you to the community for your participation and for your continued support for a safe Schaumburg. Missed out on the fun? Watch the Reel on the village's Instagram to get a glimpse into the evening's activities. We hope you will join the celebration next year on the first Tuesday in August.

Have a concern for the police?

The public is welcome to attend the monthly Chat with the Brass meetings held every third Thursday at the Police Department. This forum allows residents to chat with members of the Command Staff, ask questions, and voice any safety concerns they may have. Meeting information is posted on the calendar of the website. For more information, dial 311 in Schaumburg or call (847) 895-4500.

Cook County Community Voices Survey

Cook County has announced its Community Voices Survey to help shape the future of its community programs. Fill out the survey to rank which programs you believe Cook County should continue supporting in 2027 and beyond. The survey is open through Sept. 13 and can be found online.

Stay Sober or Get Pulled Over

Motorists are reminded that if you plan to get behind the wheel, stay sober. Don’t drink, use marijuana, or consume any other impairing substances before or when driving. Driving under the influence not only risks your own life but also endangers passengers and fellow road users. The financial and human costs of a DUI are immeasurable. The decision to avoid driving impaired is simple and could spare lives. Remember to designate a sober drive before heading out if you plan to drink or use other impairing substances, never let loved ones drive under the influence, report suspected drunk drivers to 911, and always buckle up.

SCHOOL SAFETY FOR MOTORISTS

With the new school year beginning, it is everyone's responsibility to practice safe driving. Motorists can follow these tips to help keep kids safe:

  • Review and obey the laws of school bus safety highlighted on the Illinois State Police website.
  • Slow down. Watch for children walking or bicycling, especially in neighborhoods with bus stops and/or schools.
  • Remember that children do not easily estimate vehicle speeds and often misjudge when it is safe to cross the street. Be aware and cautious of crossing pedestrians.
  • Don't drive distracted. Avoid the use of hand-held cell phones and other electronic devices while driving.
  • Be aware that school zone speed limits may vary in hours and speeds. Follow the posted limits.

NEW AT THE CORNER OF... LAO HU TONG

This fall Schaumburg will welcome Lao Hu Tong to 24 W. Golf Rd. at the corner of Golf and Roselle roads. Experienced restauranteur Rong Zhen Huang brings her years of culinary and hospitality expertise to Lao Hu Tong and will serve a modern blend of Chinese favorites including bao, dim sum, wontons, wok specialties, noodle dishes, traditional appetizers, and more. Renovations will begin shortly to put their modern twist on the former and now vacant Boston Market.

AUGUST 11 MARKS NATIONAL 811 DAY

Aug. 11 marks 811 Day, a day that serves as a reminder for residents to call 811 prior to every digging project to have underground utility lines marked at no cost. The free service can help avoid expensive damages to buried utilities, interruptions in services and potential injuries that may occur when an underground utility line is damaged. Putting up a fence, installing a mailbox post, building a deck or patio, and planting trees and shrubs are all common examples of digging projects that require a call to JULIE first. For more information or to submit a request online, visit JULIE's website.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Rodenburg Road Reconstruction & Resurfacing

Next week, topsoil installation along the edges of the roadway and the slopes will continue. Crews will complete some temporary landscaping after the topsoil is placed and graded. Crews have completed the underground work for the new roadway lighting system and are now waiting for the new light poles and the controller cabinet to be delivered. Next week, asphalt crews will return to the site to complete the pedestrian path pavement along the east side of the road. Concrete crews will then install the concrete connections between the asphalt path and the adjacent sidewalk and curb. The roadway remains closed to traffic and is expected to reopen in the fall.

For more information, visit the project website.

National Parkway Reconstruction

The project is near completion. Although the sidewalks are poured and the roadway is paved, please stay safe and refrain from entering the jobsite until it is officially opened to the public.

For more information on the village's construction projects, view the Construction Dashboard.
