VILLAGE BOARD DISCUSSES CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN
|
|
|
|
The Village of Schaumburg is proposing a $217 million multi-year Capital Improvement Plan. The plan includes $66 million in improvements slated for the fiscal year that begins May 1, 2023.
The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) is a comprehensive plan that sets the direction and priorities for the village’s capital improvement projects and associated funding for the next five years. The plan is expected to be approved by the Village Board at its January 10, 2023, meeting.
The plan anticipates spending approximately $8 million annually to improve residential streets. In FY 2023/24, the village will allocate an additional $1.8 million in Motor Fuel Tax funds to reconstruct commercial and industrial streets. The 2023 street improvement program will be available on the village’s website in the spring.
The village continues to seek federal grants for roadway projects to reduce the use of local funds. Of the $18 million that is budgeted for FY 2023/24, the village anticipates securing $7.6 million in grants. Significant construction projects for the upcoming fiscal year include:
• Bode Road (Barrington to Springinsguth)
• National Parkway (Higgins to Woodfield)
• Springinsguth Road (Bode to Schaumburg)
• Rodenburg Road (Irving Park to village limits)
• National Parkway (Golf to American)
Other projects include water, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and utility improvements, bike and walkway path rehabilitation, and continuing the redevelopment of the 90 North District.

EXTREME COLD WEATHER AND SNOW SAFETY TIPS
|
|
|
|
With the first storm of the winter season in full effect, Schaumburg's Snow & Ice Command encourages residents to keep themselves and loved ones safe by knowing what to do during inclement weather:
- Stay up to date on weather forecasts and check your emergency food and water supplies.
- View SnowStat, the interactive snow plow map for village-maintained streets.
- Keep fire hydrants clear and easy to locate in case of a fire emergency.
- Create an emergency car kit.
- Heat and power your home safely. If you should experience a power outage, please contact ComEd at (800) 334-7661 or report an outage online.
- Leave all water taps slightly open so they drip continuously and allow heated air to reach pipes inside your home.
- Make sure babies and older adults are kept warm. Keep pets indoors.
- Avoid exerting yourself outdoors and stay safe during cleanup by staying clear of plows.
- Know the signs of frostbite and hypothermia.
- Be familiar with available Warming Centers in your area in case of loss of power or inadequate heating. The Village's Police Department at 1000 Schaumburg W. Road is also serving as a local warming center for those who may need it.
For additional information including mailbox or parkway damages, please visit the village's website.
Always call 911 if you are in need of fire or police assistance. Village crews work with police and fire to ensure that there is a clear roadway for emergency services. For further questions about the village's snow and ice operations, please dial 311 in Schaumburg.

FIRST VILLAGE OF SCHAUMBURG GATEWAY SIGN INSTALLED
|
|
|
|
Earlier this fall the village began its gateway sign replacement project. The project includes the replacement of twelve existing signs and the installation of a new sign at the southwest corner of Roselle Rd. and Central Rd., near the Roselle Rd. bike path bridge. The large stone gateway sign located at E. Frontage Rd. and Higgins Rd. (IL-72) will not be replaced as part of this project.
The signs incorporate the new village branding and identity in a modern design welcomes pedestrians and motorists into the Schaumburg community. Entryway signs create a sense of place and quality, attract attention, convey the community’s image as a high-quality place to live, and help the community stand apart from its neighbors.
Work consisted of the demolition of the existing signs, excavation for new concrete foundations, installation of a masonry façade and finally, the installation of the new, backlit LED aluminum signs. The first sign was installed on Dec. 19 at Irving Park Rd. and Mitchell Blvd. By the end of the day Dec. 20, a total of 10 signs had been installed. The final three signs are still in production and will be installed in early 2023. The 10 installed signs should be illuminated no later than Jan. 5. Landscaping at all 13 locations will begin in the spring of 2023. For more information on this project, please dial 311 in the village.
