DEMOGRAPHIC, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC TRENDS IN SCHAUMBURG
At the Dec. 20 Committee of the Whole meeting, a report on the latest demographic, social, and economic trends in Schaumburg was presented to elected officials and staff by Rob Paral and Associates. The updated report incorporated information from the 2020 Census and data from the American Community Survey and analyzed a variety of trends, including total population, race/ethnicity, household income, education, housing, immigrants and more.
Although Illinois’ overall population declined, Schaumburg grew by 6 percent. Some highlights of Paral’s report indicate Schaumburg is continuing to change in terms of its diversity; its population is aging and becoming more diverse; and the community is becoming increasingly educated. Key report findings indicate that 38 percent of Schaumburg adults are foreign-born, and their top countries of origin include India, Poland, Mexico, Japan, Philippines, China, Korea, Pakistan, Bulgaria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
These trends indicate the community is ever-changing, so village staff will continue efforts to highlight diverse individuals, celebrate important cultural days, and determine opportunities to create positive connections with diverse audiences. Stay tuned to the village’s communication channels for additional report highlights about the community’s characteristics. Paral's presentation of his analysis results can be found online.

Schaumburg Participates in Operation North Pole
In partnership with charity organization Operation North Pole (ONP), Schaumburg's Fire, Police, and Engineering and Public Works Departments helped create an unforgettable holiday event for two children in the community undergoing medical treatment. ONP's usual North Pole event had been put on hold due to COVID-19 and other airborne illnesses, so Schaumburg's emergency services were brought in for assistance. Emergency vehicles arrived to the children's residences with their lights and sirens on to deliver gifts while the Schaumburg Christian Choir sung carols with fanfare. ONP's mission is to provide the entire family of a child with a life-threatening illness a brief respite from the stressors that come during the holiday season. Holiday Gift Giving Program Brings Holiday Cheer to Local Families
Throughout the month of December, Schaumburg's Social Services Division organized a "Holiday Shop" to provide children and seniors with gifts to unwrap during the holiday season. The community was encouraged to donate through Amazon and Walmart wish lists to ensure there was a gift option for everyone. Davey Tree Expert Company also generously organized a toy drive to help provide gifts for the Holiday Shop. With help from the Nursing Division, 20 families were assisted and 59 children were provided with three gifts each. Plus, $1,425 in gift cards were distributed amongst those in need. Thank you to all donors for helping make this holiday season magical! To help stock social services' year-round essentials closet, visit the wish list online.
