EXTREME COLD WEATHER SAFETY TIPS
With the weather forecast calling for more bitter cold temperatures, the Schaumburg Fire Department encourages residents to keep yourselves and loved ones safe by knowing how to prepare your home and car before inclement weather arrives:
- Listen to weather forecasts regularly and check your emergency food and water supplies.
- Make sure a smoke detector and a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector are installed in your home.
- Create an emergency car kit.
- Heat and power your home safely.
- Leave all water taps slightly open so they drip continuously and allow heated air to reach pipes inside your home.
- Make sure babies and older adults are kept warm. Keep pets indoors.
- Avoid exerting yourself outdoors and stay safe during cleanup.
- Know the signs of frostbite and hypothermia.
For more winter emergency preparedness tips, please visit the village's website..

USE DIAL-A-RIDE TRANSPORTATION TO ESCAPE THE COLD
Need to get out and about but the frigid conditions have knocked your ride out cold? Dial-A-Ride Transportation (DART) is provided by the Village of Schaumburg and Pace’s Suburban Bus Division. Schaumburg’s signature transit service has evolved over the years into one of the few community-operated bus services in the Chicagoland area that provides door-to-door access to any location in Schaumburg. Since its inception in 1979, DART has provided more than three million rides to residents that need to get around town.
To schedule a ride using DART, please call (847) 352-8097. Masks or face coverings for riders are mandatory on all DART vehicles. For more information about DART, visit the village's website.
