BOARD APPROVES PROPERTY FOR NEW POLICE STATION
At the July 9 Village Board meeting, Schaumburg village officials approved an ordinance for the purchase and sale agreement for the property at 1000 Woodfield Road to serve as the site of the village’s future police station. The purchase price is $5.45 million, and the closing on the property is scheduled for July 31, 2024.
The village continues to work with Williams Architects on the design of a new village hall and police station. The Atcher Municipal Center, which was built in 1971, and the Public Safety Building, which was built in 1975, were both scored as “Replacement Indicated” in a 2021 conditions assessment. Study of both buildings indicated the facilities are undersized and inadequate for the needs of present and future village operations. Deficiencies include energy efficiency, work environment, employee wellness, safety/security, and image/citizen expectations, among others.
Following the closing on 1000 Woodfield Road, the village will begin plans and preparations for a future temporary move of its operations and personnel at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center to the building at 1000 Woodfield Road. The move is being targeted for next spring/summer. The temporary move will then allow demolition to begin on the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Ct., and construction of a new village hall at that location. Construction is anticipated to be completed at the end of 2026.
Once the new village hall is constructed and operations are moved into the new building, the facility at 1000 Woodfield Road will be demolished to allow for construction of a new police station. Specific timelines for construction of the new police station have not yet been determined, but work is expected to begin after the new village hall is complete.

AL LARSON ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD PRESENTED
At the July 9 Village Board meeting, the Banks residence was named the latest recipient of the Al Larson Environmental Award. The award recognizes individuals and commercial/residential properties that have implemented sustainable initiatives in the Schaumburg community.
In 2023, the Banks residence installed a rooftop solar energy system to help combat greenhouse gas emissions. To further reduce carbon emissions, Mr. Banks purchased a plug-in hybrid car and uses a battery-driven lawnmower. He has also reduced car trips by choosing to walk. During those walks he picks up bottles to recycle. At their residence, rain barrels have been installed to control excess runoff and reduce water used for watering the yard. Water retaining mulch was also installed around the trees and shrubs in place of gravel. The Banks’ home is an example of conservation and resource stewardship.

| STAY SAFE IN HIGH TEMPERATURES | |
Summer is officially here with temperatures expected to get into the 90s this weekend. Heat can be very taxing on the body and is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year. The Schaumburg Fire Department would like to remind the public to review some simple heat safety tips to help you and your loved ones stay cool and safe:
- Dress in loose-fitting, lightweight and light-colored clothes.
- Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- Limit strenuous outdoor activity during midday heat. If you find yourself outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade/air conditioning and stay hydrated. This includes pets, too!
- Look before you lock: never leave children or pets unattended in closed vehicles on warm days.
- Check on the elderly, individuals with medical conditions and those without air conditioning.
-
Know the symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion and seek emergency help by dialing 911 if needed.
More heat preparedness tips can be found online. If you are experiencing or notice someone experiencing a medical emergency, always dial 911.
