With high temperatures expected next week, the Schaumburg Fire Department wants to remind you of some simple tips to continue to keep children safe around pools this summer:
- If you have a pool at home, make sure it is properly fenced and use self-closing and self-latching gates. Install covers and alarms on and around your pool and spa. Teach children never to go into the pool without adult supervision. Reduce temptation by removing toys and floats when not in use.
- Always watch children and never leave them unattended in the pool. Avoid distractions like phones, books, etc. Drownings happen quickly and quietly.
- Keep children away from pool drains, pipes and other openings.
- Don’t rely on water wings or noodles to keep your child safe; they are not life jackets. Always supervise closely, even if there is a lifeguard present.
-
Learn how to perform CPR on children and adults. If you are looking for CPR training, the village offers classes for the public and health care providers.
