SPECIAL BRUSH PICKUP BEGINS JULY 11
brush
The village will be offering a special brush pickup beginning Monday, July 11 to help clean up trees and bushes damaged by this week’s storms. Residents must neatly place their branches, 8 inches in diameter or smaller, at the curb by 7 a.m. Monday, July 11 as crews will not return to the areas they service. The branches will be chipped and removed at no cost to residents.

Crews will NOT enter yards or private property to pick up materials; everything must be placed at the curb for pickup. This special brush pickup is open to single-family residences only; contractor-generated brush will not be collected. Residents are asked to follow the brush preparation guidelines listed on the village's website to ensure their material is collected.

The pickup process will take some time, so please be patient as crews move through the village to collect the brush. For additional questions about the special brush pickup, dial 311 in the village or call (847) 895-4500 outside of Schaumburg.
SCHAUMBURG TO BEGIN AERIAL-LEAK DETECTION PROGRAM
Drinking water is a valuable natural resource. It is purchased by the village through a joint action water agency and is distributed and sold to residents and businesses throughout the village. Unfortunately, water can be lost through aging infrastructure, which not only results in lost assets, but also lost revenues because the village cannot bill for the water it has purchased. The village recently approved an agreement to begin an aerial-leak detection program of its infrastructure with the intent on proactively finding water leaks so they can be addressed before more serious issues arise.

Historically the village has performed manual leak detection to identify water loss, which is the industry standard for identifying water leaks. Manual detection uses listening equipment to survey the distribution system, identify leak sounds and pinpoint the locations of hidden underground leaks. This new effort is one component of a larger water loss reduction program that aims to reduce water loss and save potentially up to $340,000 annually by using the aerial-leak detection technology. The aerial-leak detection program is anticipated to be implemented this fiscal year.

The village will work with a contracted company that will use specialty satellite radar units to detect the presence of sub-surface potable water. When combined with data mapping already in place for the village’s infrastructure, the technology determines likely locations of leaking water. Data obtained from these efforts will also provide the village with additional information that will be used for future capital infrastructure planning based on aging infrastructure. For more information on this program, dial 311 in the village or call (847) 895-4500.
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY AND KEEP SCHAUMBURG CLEAN
Members of the Bahá’í Faith from Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates recently met to clean Algonquin Road between Meacham Road and College Hill Circle in support of the Adopt-A-Highway program. Bahá’u’lláh, the Founder of the Bahá’I Faith said, “The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens”. We must protect and preserve this earth since we all share this home. And for Bahá’ís, work is considered a form of worship. Thus, a team of individuals spent over 4 hours picking up rubbish and beautifying this highway.

The Bahá’ís of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg will be cleaning this stretch of Algonquin Road once a month for the next 3 months. If you would like to assist in this effort or to learn more about the Bahá’í Faith, please contact the Bahá’is of Schaumburg. Additional information on the Adopt-A-Highway program can be found on the village's website or by dialing 311 in Schaumburg.
