FIREWORKS REMINDER
The Village of Schaumburg wishes everyone a safe and happy upcoming Fourth of July holiday. As a reminder, any fireworks that go “boom” or “bang” or that shoot or explode are ILLEGAL for you to possess or use in the State of Illinois and the Village of Schaumburg. It is important to always leave fireworks to the professionals, especially with the increased risk of fire due to recent dry weather. The Schaumburg Police Department will be increasing its patrols during the holiday to respond to fireworks complaints and will issue citations for those in illegal possession of fireworks. It is important to note that property owners can be cited where there are fireworks being discharged regardless of knowing who actually set them off. The public is advised to call 911 to make any complaints regarding fireworks. Please refer to the village’s Municipal Code for more information.

Prepare Pets In Cases of Emergencies
For your pet’s safety and comfort, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security advises for pet owners to have preparedness items at hand in case of emergencies. Items for your pet preparedness kit include:
  • Non-perishable food and favorite pet treats
  • Water and water bowls
  • Waste bags, cat litter, and a pan
  • Blanket/bedding and favorite pet toys
  • Leashes, harnesses, and/or carriers
  • Pet medications and a first-aid kit
  • Copies of medical records including vaccination records and pet identification

It is important to identify a safe place ahead of time for your pet’s care. If you evacuate, take your pets and keep them on a leash or in a carrier. Verify that your pets are wearing up-to-date identification and have a plan for someone to take your pets if you are not home at the time of the emergency. Additional tips on pet preparedness can be found online.
