SEPTEMBERFEST MAIN STAGE ACTS ANNOUNCED

The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce Septemberfest’s main stage entertainment lineup with Phillip Phillips, Plain White T’s, and 7th heaven scheduled to perform as headliners of the popular three-day festival that will be taking place Aug. 31 through Sept. 2.

Former “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips will headline the main stage at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31. Phillips was launched to fame in 2011 following his melodic radio hit “Home,” which was followed by the release of his full-length album, "The World From The Side Of The Moon." Phillips’ success continued with additional album releases "Behind The Light" and "Collateral.” Recent releases include “Love Like That,” a song dedicated to the unconditional love he has for his wife and child.

On Sunday, Sept. 1, Plain White T’s will headline the main stage at 8:30 p.m. delivering unforgettable pop rock anthems. Plain White T’s has amassed more than 2.7 billion total global streams, earned two Grammy nominations, and collected several Platinum-plus and Gold certifications across their impressive catalog. Their signature single "Hey There Delilah" went quadruple-platinum, topped the Billboard Hot 100, and earned the pair of aforementioned GRAMMY® nominations in 2008 — for "Song of the Year" and "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal."

Septemberfest will wrap up on Monday, Sept. 2 with headliner 7th heaven that takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Known for the famous "30 Songs in 30 Minutes" medley of songs from the 70's and 80's, 7th heaven has been an entertainment staple for 39 years. The band has toured the world, playing the U.K., Amsterdam, Panama, Mexico and all over the United States. 7th heaven has charted #1 on the Midwest Billboard Charts three times and has had seven major radio hits.

CENTEX AREA APPROVED FOR TIF DISTRICT

The Schaumburg Village Board recently approved a proposal to designate the Centex Redevelopment Project Area as a new TIF District. The overall goal of this redevelopment project area is to reduce or eliminate conditions that qualify as “conservation areas” for improved parcels, “blighted areas” for unimproved parcels, and to provide the direction and mechanisms necessary to redevelop the Centex Industrial Park as a vibrant industrial and commercial district. This includes revitalizing the 573-acre industrial park through infrastructure and property improvements, strengthening the area's economic and employment base, and enhancing overall quality of life within the project area.

Village staff had been working with consultant SB Friedman over the past nine months to assess the project area and evaluate its eligibility for a TIF District. The report concluded the area is eligible for designation as a “conservation area” for improved land and a “blighted area” for vacant land, per the Illinois Tax Increment Allocation Redevelopment Act. A May 14 Public Hearing was held, followed by formal approval of the TIF District at the May 28 Village Board meeting. For more information on the Centex TIF District, please visit the village's website

EMPLOYEES PLANT VEGETABLE GARDEN TO BENEFIT SENIORS IN COMMUNITY

Did you know the Schaumburg Barn grows its own vegetables? Thanks to several Village of Schaumburg employees and seniors who volunteer their free time, the Intergenerational Garden, located at 231 S. Civic Dr., has remained a vital source of fresh produce for seniors in the community for more than a decade. The garden produces watermelon, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes and more that help hundreds of seniors get access to fresh food each season.

Garbage Cart Placement

With the warmer temperatures and schools out for the summer, Schaumburg residents are reminded not to block on-street bicycle lanes when putting out their garbage carts on their regular collection day. Carts should not be placed in the street. When putting carts out at the curb, handles should be facing the property with the lid opening toward the street. Arrows are marked on the lid of the cart to remind residents which way the cart should face to ensure LRS trucks can easily pick up the carts to dispose of its contents. For more information on how to dispose of bulk items, establish an appointment for the collection of white goods, and other information related to garbage and recycling collection, visit the website or contact LRS directly by calling (844) 633-3577.

ALMOST HOME FOUNDATION INVESTS IN FACILITY EXPANSION

Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, Almost Home Foundation has been rescuing and rehoming dogs and cats for 18 years. Many of the rescued animals arrive to the facility with health issues that require significant funds for treatment, amounting to over $300,000 annually. To reduce medical costs and expand its life-saving efforts, Almost Home Foundation is expanding its current facility at 1800 W. Irving Park to include a new surgical and medical treatment center. This center will enable in-house sterilization and basic veterinary care, significantly lowering medical expenses. Additionally, the expansion will provide an indoor play area, training classes, a cat-specific area, storage space and medical care rooms for sick animals to prevent contamination. For more information, visit Almost Home Foundation's website.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

National Parkway Reconstruction

Crews have finished pouring concrete for the roundabout and medians and have begun laying the asphalt binder at the north leg of National Parkway. Next week, work will continue on the installation of electrical wiring for the proposed traffic signal and roadway lighting. Once the roadway binder is paved, the remaining driveway aprons, sidewalks, and bike path will be installed.

For more information on the village's construction projects, view the Construction Dashboard.

Rodenburg Road Reconstruction & Resurfacing

Over the weekend, expect to see Metra crews working on and testing the equipment at the new railroad crossing gates.

Next week, road construction crews will be preparing the roadway for concrete curbs and medians.

Since the project began, crews have installed 52 new drainage structures, removed 700 feet of old storm sewer pipe, and installed 2,150 feet of new pipe, which equates to nearly a half mile in pipe. This work is all buried and will help carry future stormwater off of the pavement.

As a reminder, this is a closed construction site and is unsafe for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to enter. Please continue to follow the posted detour route. For additional information, visit the project website.
