RESIDENTIAL POOL, HOT TUB PERMIT REQUIREMENTS
It's never too early to start thinking about summer days spent poolside. As a reminder, a pool permit is required for all permanently installed and temporary/seasonal pools. The Village of Schaumburg has adopted the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code as well as a few local ordinance items for the installation of a swimming pool or hot tub. Several factors including placement, lot coverage, setbacks, and pool barriers (fencing/alarms) are required by code to improve safety. The village has prepared a resource guide to highlight several of the requirements for the installation of pools and hot tubs.

The Pool Permit and Barrier Checklist is a good place to start in order to develop a general understanding of the multiple requirements which are required by code and are reviewed and inspected as part of the permit process.

Other existing site conditions such as slopes/grading, utilities and other accessory structures within your yard may have an impact on the review and approval process. The process and requirements may seem overwhelming, so the village offers an option to schedule a pre-planning or pre-construction meeting at your home. If you are interested in meeting with a Building Division staff member, please contact Scott Flanagan to schedule this optional consultation at your home.
SCHAUMBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN
As we head into St. Patrick’s Day weekend, the Schaumburg Police Department is reminding motorists that they will be out in full force March 11-18 to keep our roads safe while the green beer flows.

In addition to looking for alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers, the Schaumburg Police Department will be stepping up seat-belt enforcement, particularly at night when seat-belt usage rates are lowest. Speeding, distracted driving and other traffic laws will also be strictly enforced.

While designating a sober driver is the simplest way to avoid a tragic crash or DUI arrest, here
are some additional tips to help you keep yourself and others safe:
  • If a friend is about to drive impaired, take their keys and help them get home safely.
  • Buckle up. It’s your best defense in the event of a crash.
  • Remember, pedestrians are at risk too. If you’re walking, keep an eye out for cars. If you’re driving, remain alert for impaired walkers who may not obey street signs.
