VILLAGE EMPLOYEES CELEBRATED DURING PUBLIC SERVICE RECOGNITION WEEK

This week the Village of Schaumburg celebrated its dedicated employees through a variety of initiatives to help recognize their efforts as part of Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW). PSRW has been celebrated nationally the first full week of May since 1985, honoring people who have chosen a career in government. All village employees were treated to catered lunches and had the opportunity to take part in several fun activities as part of the Healthy U Expo that featured employee raffles for prizes, a putt-putt challenge, 5-minute massages, sweet treats, an employee bake-off, and health workshops. The village thanks all employees for the role they play in making Schaumburg such a great place to live, work and visit.

SCHAUMBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES ISO CLASS 1 RATING

Schaumburg elected officials, along with representatives from the Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office and the Insurance Services Office (ISO), joined the Schaumburg Fire Department for a brief ceremony held May 9 celebrating the success of the department’s recent ISO Class 1 Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating. The ISO Class 1 rating is the highest rating that can be achieved and is the first in the department’s history.

Schaumburg Fire Chief Jim Walters thanked several village departments, including members of the Fire Department, Engineering & Public Works, and representatives from Northwest Central Dispatch System – all of whom worked collaboratively to help the village earn this special distinction. The rating places Schaumburg in the top 2 percent in Illinois, where only 29 departments have earned an ISO Class 1 rating.

“I think this is a very proud moment for the village,” Chief Walters said. “It demonstrates the emphasis the village has on safety.”

Illinois Fire Marshal James Rivera and ISO Representative Randall Downs spoke at the event, congratulated the village on its recent achievements, and recognized the level of commitment needed to obtain the rating and maintain such a high level of safety in the community.

CELEBRATING NATIONAL WALK AND BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY

On May 8, the Village of Schaumburg Transportation Department partnered with local schools to promote and participate in National Walk and Bike to School Day. As part of the event, members of the Schaumburg Police Department handed out pencils and stickers to participants while greeting them before the start of their school day. Children and adults from five Schaumburg schools participated in this fun, community event.

Walk and Bike to School Day are annual events that promote walking and bicycling for several reasons:

  • Physical activity
  • Teaching safe pedestrian and bicycling skills to children
  • Awareness of how walkable and bikeable the community is
  • Concern for the environment
  • Reducing traffic congestion, pollution and speed near schools
  • Sharing time with community leaders, parents and children

The village thanks School District 54 schools (Campanelli, Enders-Salk, Aldrin, Dooley and Hale) for their participation and others who may have participated individually in this annual event. For more information on biking in Schaumburg and upcoming activities during Bike Month in June, please visit the website or dial 311 in the village.
