ATTEND PUBLIC WORKS OPEN HOUSE MAY 18

The Village of Schaumburg invites the public to attend its free Engineering and Public Works Open House that will be held Saturday, May 18. The all-ages event will take place rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Engineering and Public Works maintenance garage, 714 S. Plum Grove Rd.


Residents and children will be offered a unique experience to get a behind-the-scenes look at what skills, tools and equipment are required to maintain the village’s infrastructure. The event will include touch-a-truck, equipment displays, informational booths, demonstrations, free giveaways, snacks and more. Kona Ice will be available onsite for purchase.


Winners of the K-12 Student Video Contest depicting “What Public Works Means to You” will also be celebrated at the event.


Recognizing the urgent needs of animals at local rescue organizations, the village is proud to collect items and monetary donations at the event to benefit the Almost Home Foundation and Chicagoland Dog Rescue. A list of suggested items and Amazon wishlists are available on the website.

BRUSH COLLECTION UNDERWAY

2024 Schaumburg Brush Collection informational video

The 2024 Brush Collection program is underway in Schaumburg. Village Forester Frank Calvello shares some tips in this video on how to properly prepare your brush to ensure it's collected.


Please note that brush must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your scheduled week. It may take crews up to five days to complete collection in each zone. SCHAUMBURG CHORAL ARTISTS PREVIEW OVERSEAS TOUR AT THE PRAIRIE CENTER MAY 19

Leading up to their first overseas tour, Schaumburg Choral Artists and Director Tim Knoll perform in concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct. The program features vocal selections to be performed during the group’s 10-day tour of Ireland and Scotland, occurring June 10-18 of this year.


Developed in 2022 to provide performance opportunities for formally trained area singers, the ensemble quickly grew to include 41 voices, whose talents bring to life an eclectic choral repertoire, including contemporary works, symphonic pieces, international music, and traditional compositions. 


Tickets for the May 19 concert are $9 in advance / $11 at the door ($5 in advance / $7 at the door for those 18 and under) and are available for purchase online.

DAILLY RECOGNIZED FOR 30 YEARS OF SERVICE

Congratulations to Schaumburg Village President Tom Dailly who was recognized at the May 14 Village Board meeting for his 30 years of public service to the Schaumburg community. Human Resources Director Joe Carey presented President Dailly with his certificate of appreciation and thanked him on behalf of the Village Board, Village Clerk, and staff. President Dailly was sworn in as Schaumburg's sixth Village President in May 2019, after serving as Village Trustee from 1988-2009 and again from 2014-2019. Congratulations on 30 years of service to Schaumburg!

Register Now for Village Bike Classics

The Village of Schaumburg encourages the public to celebrate Bike Month, which is being recognized by the village in June with a variety of fun activities. Returning for its 6th year, the Business Bike Classic invites employees of Schaumburg businesses to form teams of four and record their bicycle mileage completed in June to compete for prizes and the traveling Business Bike Classic trophy. To participate, teams must submit the Business Bike Classic registration form.


New this year is the Family and Friends Bike Classic, which encourages Schaumburg residents of all ages to form groups of four and record all bicycling mileage completed in June. Cumulative results will be ranked, and prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. To participate, teams must submit the Family and Friends Bike Classic registration form. Schaumburg Bikeways Workshop May 21

Gather resources and support for the upcoming riding season at the Schaumburg Bikeways Workshop taking place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21 at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd. Stop by to learn more about the village's extensive bikeway network and upcoming Bike Month activities in June. Bikeways Advisory Committee Chairman Bob Schmidt and Dave Simmons with Ride Illinois will also be speaking at the event. Youth Citizen Police Academy Applications Open

The 2024 Youth Citizen Police Academy will take place Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21. Teens interested in learning how the Schaumburg Police Department operates will have a unique opportunity this summer to participate in an interactive curriculum surrounding the law enforcement profession. Topics include patrol operations, community policing, forensics, safety and more. All students will receive a certificate of completion, CPR certification and a T-shirt. Applications are being accepted through May 31 or until the class is full. Additional information and the application can be found on the village's website.

PRAIRIE ARTS FESTIVAL RETURNS MAY 25-26

Memorial Day weekend’s popular Prairie Arts Festival returns Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 to the grounds of the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Ct. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, rain or shine. Admission is free, and the event will feature approximately 100 fine artists, including jewelers, painters, photographers, potters, sculptors, and woodcarvers from coast to coast. CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Temporary Pace Bus Stop at Woodfield Mall

Due to construction, the bus stop at Woodfield Mall will be closed on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24. Buses will pick up and drop off passengers at a temporary stop on Perimeter Drive at the current exit from the Woodfield Mall stop, as shown in the map online. Buses will resume service to the regular stop when construction is complete, which is expected to be on Saturday, May 25.

National Parkway Reconstruction

The new curb and gutter has been poured on the north leg of National Parkway as the footprint of the roundabout begins to take shape. The curb for the medians will be poured this week with topsoil for the landscaping to follow. After some minor underground conduit connections are completed, fine grading for the roadway paving will begin.

Rodenburg Road Reconstruction & Resurfacing

Crews expect to complete the installation of the new storm sewer system next week. Metra crews expect to complete their signal replacement work by the end of May. Intren crews are working for ComEd to adjust their power cables, which will also be complete next week. Please note that both the roadway and pedestrian path are closed to traffic, including walkers and bicyclists.
