ATTEND THE JOINT MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE

The public is invited to attend a joint Memorial Day Observance that will be held Monday, May 27 in both Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.

The Hoffman Estates portion of the event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Hoffman Estates Veterans Memorial site located in front of the Hoffman Estates Police Department at 411 W. Higgins Rd. Immediately following the lowering of the flag in Hoffman Estates, the observance will move to Schaumburg for a 10:45 a.m. ceremony at the St. Peter Lutheran Church & School, 202 E. Schaumburg Rd. in Schaumburg.

The observance will be an outdoor event held rain or shine, with an indoor contingency if needed for severe weather. Following the observance, weather permitting, hot dogs and other refreshments will be served at the Picnic Grove at St. Peter Church. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating on the grounds in Schaumburg. For questions regarding the event, dial 311 in the Village of Schaumburg or call (847) 895-4500.

STUDENT VIDEO CONTEST WINNERS RECOGNIZED

Winners of the K-12 Student Video Contest were recognized by the village at the Engineering and Public Works Open House on May 18. The contest provided local students the opportunity to create a 30-second video showing “What Public Works Means to You.” Of the submissions received, Shree Gupta, 6th grade, was awarded Best in Show, and Atharv Kumar, 4th Grade, was awarded Most Creative. You can view the winning productions on the village's website. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who participated!

The village would also like to thank everyone who attended the event and those who donated goods for animals in need at the Almost Home Foundation and Chicagoland Dog Rescue. Several crates, leashes, harnesses, collars, toys, sheets, towels and bags of food for both dogs and cats were collected at the event. In addition, $312 in monetary donations were raised for the local animal rescues.

Roselle Rd. Learn from landscape professional Sue Cubberly how to design and plant your own rain garden to absorb excess rainwater. Participants can bring photographs of their yards for a personal consultation. What's Happening in Schaumburg?

Learn about developments, infrastructure improvements, village services and more from the village's Communications and Outreach Department at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 5 at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd. Bring your questions for a Q&A to follow the presentation. Whether you're a lifelong resident or new to the village, participants are sure to find this conversation valuable and informative. The event will be held hybrid (in-person or online) and attendees must register online.

Memorial Day Seat Belt Enforcement

Through Memorial Day, the Schaumburg Police Department is stepping up enforcement to remind motorists to “Click It or Ticket.” Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, a popular time for traveling to visit family and friends. Whether you are traveling down the block or across the country, make sure you buckle up every time. While Illinois currently has a 93% seat belt use compliance rate, unbelted occupants still account for more than half of those killed in motor vehicle crashes. The simple click of a seat belt could save thousands of lives each year.

Memorial Day Office Closure

The Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Ct., and all Schaumburg administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Residents who need assistance can still dial 311 to reach a customer service representative or visit the village's website for more information on programs and services. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 28.

Due to the holiday, garbage, recycling and brush collection will be delayed by one day.

Classical guitarist, Brad Conroy, will provide the soundtrack for the afternoon.
