EPW DRAWING CONTEST WINNERS RECOGNIZED
On May 20, winners of the Village of Schaumburg's Engineering and Public Works Department (EPW) drawing contest were recognized by the village at the EPW Open House. The contest provided local students, grades K-8, the opportunity to draw a picture of “What Public Works Means to Them.” Of the submissions received, the artwork of two students was selected: Dominik Rosa, grade 1, and Noa Okada, grade 5. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who participated!

The village would also like to thank everyone who attended the event and those who donated goods to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry by “loading the loader.” Earlier this week, EPW staff delivered 15 bags of non-perishable items to the food pantry so they could be distributed to the community. Young Musicians Honored with Scholarships
The Village of Schaumburg awarded Schaumburg Youth Orchestra scholarships valuing more than $3,000 to 23 students for their outstanding contributions during the program's 2022-23 season. Recipients were selected from the program's four performing ensembles.

In addition to the village-sponsored scholarships, three graduating high school seniors each received a special scholarship worth $500. Citizen Police Academy Wraps Up Spring Session
The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) recently wrapped up its spring session. CPA gives residents and business community members the opportunity to meet and interact on a personal level with members of the Schaumburg Police Department. Participants were exposed to many facets of law enforcement, including covering patrol, investigations, support services, and training. Not only did they attend classroom lectures, participants had the opportunity to participate in a patrol ride-along, firearms training on the range, and mock traffic stops. Through the Citizen Police Academy, the police department hopes to provide an environment that will help foster relationships between the police and community. For more information on the CPA, visit the website or contact Paula Diaz.
Memorial Day Police Enforcement Campaign
Now through Memorial Day, the Schaumburg Police Department is stepping up enforcement to remind motorists to “Click It or Ticket.” Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, a popular time for traveling to visit family and friends. Whether you are traveling down the block or across the country, make sure you buckle up every time. While Illinois currently has a 93% seat belt use compliance rate, unbelted occupants still account for more than half of those killed in motor vehicle crashes. The simple click of a seat belt could save thousands of lives each year.
Memorial Day Office Closure
The Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Ct., and all Schaumburg administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 29 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Residents who need assistance can still dial 311 to reach a customer service representative or visit the village's website for more information on programs and services. Administrative offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 30.

Due to the holiday, no garbage and recycling collection will take place on Monday, May 29. Monday through Friday's collection will be delayed by one day. Brush collection will take place on Tuesday, May 30.
