VILLAGE PROPOSES TO MAINTAIN PROPERTY TAX LEVY
Village officials approved a measure at its Nov. 8 Village Board meeting proposing to maintain the village’s property tax levy at the same amount that was levied in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Since 2009, the village has had a property tax levy—which has been reduced or maintained every year—to fund costs associated with police and fire operations and to make required contributions into the police and firefighters’ pension funds, which has increased by $2.3 million. Each year the village’s fiscal condition is assessed to determine if the levy can be reduced further. Village officials voted for the village’s property tax levy to remain stable at the same amount that was levied in 2021. The total amount of the tentative levy is $19,479,582. The tax levy ordinance is anticipated to be approved at the Dec. 13 Village Board meeting.

SCHAUMBURG PLACES FIRST IN DIGITAL CITIES SURVEY
The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce it has placed first in the 2022 Digital Cities Survey, which evaluates municipalities across the country and ranks their performance on a variety of technical fronts such as strategic planning, constituent engagement, transparency, innovation, project management, network infrastructure, network security, and more.

“This award acknowledges the dedication and hard work of the entire Information Technology team,” said Peter Schaak, Director of Information Technology. “A first-place ranking is a recognition of their efforts that keep the village's robust and complex collection of systems and applications operating efficiently while being fiscally responsible. It is also their creativity and curiosity that keeps the organization at the forefront of new technologies.”

The Center for Digital Government awarded Schaumburg first place in the category of municipalities with a population of up to 75,000. While the 2020 U.S. Census saw Schaumburg’s population increase to 78,723, the survey takes into account a year of population adjustment. Prior to this year, the highest ranking the village achieved was third place.

For more information on the survey and its winners, visit the Center for Digital Government’s website.

PROGRESS NOTES
Door-to-Door Solicitor Safety (Clarification)
In last week’s Progress Report, a story indicated that complaints are being received regarding solicitors claiming to be from the village. As a clarification to that story, while many village employees conduct business in marked village vehicles, there are employees who also use unmarked vehicles to conduct village business. Employees, however, will have identification to indicate their affiliation with the village. As a resident, if you are ever unsure about an individual’s presence at your home for any reason, please dial 911 immediately so that an officer can investigate the matter and confirm the situation is not a scam. Questions? Dial 311 in Schaumburg or view the website.
View and Pay Water Bills on WebPay
Water bills can now be accessed from WebPay on the village’s website. This feature was made available as of the September 2022 billing period and provides users the option to view, download, or print their bills. The bill will be accessible as soon as water bills are processed by the village, which is usually on or around the 20th of every month. This new feature offers greater convenience as residents and businesses no longer have to wait for their bills to arrive by mail. For questions, email Laurie Rini or dial 311

Schaumburg Fire Department Practices High-Rise Firefighting
In late October, the Schaumburg Fire Department utilized the Elk Grove training tower to practice firefighting in high-rise buildings. Because hoses from the fire engine cannot reach these heights, high-rise fires require firefighters to carry hose and other necessary equipment up several flights of stairs and connect the hose to a standpipe inside the building. Firefighting crews ran drills to move hoses up several flights of stairs and deploy water flow.

With many high-rise residential and commercial buildings within the village, keeping these skills sharp is essential in maintaining the safety of our community. To learn more about the Schaumburg Fire Department, visit the website.
