VILLAGE TO MAINTAIN PROPERTY TAX LEVY

At the Nov. 12 Village Board meeting, village officials approved a measure to maintain the village’s property tax levy at the same amount that has been levied since 2019. As a result, resident property taxes paid to Schaumburg in 2023 will be similar to property taxes paid in 2024. Property taxes paid to the Village of Schaumburg represent about 6 percent of the total tax bill.

Since 2009, the village has had a property tax levy—which has been reduced or maintained every year since inception—to fund costs associated with police and fire operations and to make required contributions to the police and firefighters’ pension funds.

The total amount of the tentative levy is $19,479,582. The tax levy ordinance is anticipated to be approved at the Dec. 10 Village Board meeting.

More information on the village’s finances can be found on the website.

WISE COMMONS PROJECT APPROVED

At the Nov. 12 meeting, the Village Board approved a proposal from Pulte Home Company for the redevelopment of the current Campanelli YMCA located at 300 Wise Rd. The Planned Unit Development proposal includes plans to demolish the existing building on the approximate 14.6-acre site and redevelop the property into a residential subdivision to be called "Wise Commons." The proposed subdivision will consist of fourteen 3-story buildings with 68 total townhomes. Because the site includes approximately seven acres of wetlands on the north side of the property, the development will be located on the south side of the property to maintain the current natural landscaping. A full summary of the proposal and its supporting documentation can be found on the village's website.

CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE

Did you know that simply closing your bedroom door could save your life? Because of modern synthetic materials and furniture, fires are growing seven times faster than they were 40 years ago. The Schaumburg Fire Department urges everyone to close their bedroom doors before going to sleep to help slow the spread of flames and prevent exposure to heat, smoke and deadly gases in the event of a fire. Learn more from Firefighter Marcussen and Lieutenant Werdell in this video.

For more fire prevention and safety information, visit the website, dial 311 in Schaumburg or call (847) 895-4500.

Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste collection runs through the second full week of December (Dec. 9-13). To ensure your yard waste is collected, please place smaller brush and yard waste into biodegradable yard waste paper bags, not exceeding 30 gallons in capacity or 50 pounds in weight. Larger brush piles must be bundled using garden string or twine. The bundle size is restricted to 4 feet in length, 2 feet in diameter, and no heavier than 50 pounds. Branches cannot exceed 3 inches in diameter. Please review all yard waste preparation guidelines listed on the website.

A special collection period for holiday trees and greenery will be available throughout the month of January. More details will be shared closer to the date.

Household Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste can be found in almost every home. These materials are typically products used for cleaning, pest control, lawn and garden care, or various home repair projects. The labels on these items often include terms like flammable, corrosive, reactive or toxic. Such waste should not be thrown away with regular trash; they must be disposed of properly to prevent environmental harm. The nearest Household Hazardous Waste facility is located at 156 Fort Hill Dr. in Naperville and is open to all Illinois residents, free of charge. To locate additional facilities, visit the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's website.

STREET SWEEPING CONTINUES

Another round of street sweeping services will begin Wednesday, Nov. 20. Sweeping will be conducted in various cycles throughout Schaumburg's residential streets, industrial areas, and the Woodfield area.

The street sweepers are engineered to remove debris and residue from the street surface and curb line. A build-up of leaves and/or yard waste congests sweepers and risks sweepers catching fire. Please follow the yard waste preparation guidelines online.
