HALLOWEEN SAFETY AND TRICK-OR-TREAT HOURS
The Village of Schaumburg wishes to ensure the safety and tradition of a Happy Halloween. For those wishing to participate, Trick-or-Treat hours will take place on Monday, Oct. 31 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. during daylight hours. To keep the holiday safe and fun for everyone, the village encourages those celebrating to follow these tips:

  • Homes that wish to participate should turn their front porch/outdoor lights on. If not participating, please keep these lights off.
  • Children should stick to well-lit streets in their own neighborhood and be accompanied by an adult.
  • Never enter any home to receive treats or for any other reason.
  • Wear light-colored clothing or wear reflective tape to be better seen.
  • Always walk on sidewalks and never run in between parked vehicles.
  • All treats should be examined by a parent or guardian before they are eaten. Throw away anything unwrapped and check wrapped candy for signs of tampering. Call the police to report any suspicious treats.

DRIVE WITH CAUTION THIS HALLOWEEN
Halloween celebrations are here, which means drivers need to use extra precaution when on the streets. Here are some tips to keep both drivers and pedestrian's safe this Halloween:

  • Be alert of trick-or-treaters. It's likely more pedestrians will be on the roads and in other unexpected places. Drive at a lower speed.
  • Keep an eye out for pedestrians who come out from between parked cars, greenery, or fences. Stop, and wait for them to pass.
  • If you are attending a party, do not drink and drive. If you drink, make sure you have a designated driver.
  • Additionally, if you see a drunk driver, call 911 immediately.
  • If you are a party host, consider collecting car keys from guests who are drinking and prepare to make taxi/rideshare or sleeping accommodations for those unable to drive.

You can find other tips on Halloween safety for motorists on NHTSA's website.
COMMUNITY RECYCLING EVENT A SUCCESS
On Oct. 8, the Village of Schaumburg and the Schaumburg Environmental Committee hosted a recycling event in the west parking lot of Wintrust Field, 1999 S. Springinsguth Rd.. At the event, residents had the opportunity to recycle oil and latex paint with Earth Paint, a paint recycling company that helps provide jobs to people with special needs. Elgin Recycling collected TVs, computer monitors, and other electronics to be recycled securely. Document shredding was also offered by Docu-Shred. With the event beginning at 8 a.m., participants began lining up in their cars as early as 7:30 a.m. with a total of 404 cars attending the event. At the event, 243 gallons of paint and nearly 19,000 pounds of recyclables were saved from going to the landfill. Overall, the 2022 Fall Recycling Event was considered a great success. The next community recycling event will take place on Saturday, April 15. To learn more about the village's recycling events, visit the website.

Dispose of Expired Medications at RxBox
Oct. 29 is National Rx Drug Take Back Day. The village's RxBOX is located in the lobby of the Schaumburg Police Department, 1000 W. Schaumburg Rd., and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents can dispose of medications, including prescription and over the counter meds, ointments and liquid medications that are expired or unused, at this location at any time. Items should be placed in a zip-locked plastic bag. Asthma inhalers can be deposited in a separate zip-locked plastic bag. The medications will then be incinerated in collaboration with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Sharps, needles, syringes and thermometers are not accepted. Farmers Market Ends its Season
Today, Oct. 28 the Schaumburg Farmers Market holds its final market of the season. The market has been running every Friday in the Trickster Cultural Center Parking Lot at 190 S. Roselle Rd. from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. since June 3. Every week, residents browse locally grown fruits and vegetables, meats, flowers, plants and more from the farmers who produce them. Special musical performances and celebrations also take place at the market on occasion. The village would like to thank all vendors and marketgoers for making the 2022 Schaumburg Farmers Market a great success! For more information on attending or selling at the farmers market, please visit the website.
Water Bills Accessible on WebPay
Water bills can now be accessed from WebPay on the village's website. This feature provides users the option to view, download, or print their bills. The bill will be accessible as soon as water bills are processed by the village which is usually on or around the 20th of every month. This new feature offers greater convenience as residents and businesses no longer have to wait for their bills to arrive by mail. For more information on how to pay water bills in the village, visit the website.
A Year of Saving Lives with Blood Donations
Every year, The Village of Schaumburg Nursing Division partners with Vitalant to offer five blood drives a year. Participants are given the opportunity to enter raffles for gift cards, ranging from Home Depot to Lettuce Entertain You, and receive vouchers at time of donation for treats, such as a free pint of custard from Culver's. Most importantly, participants have the opportunity to save up to three lives with just one pint of blood donated. This year, over 200 community members participated in the blood drives, which equates to over 600 lives saved. Thank you to everyone who participated in the village's blood drives this year!
