In addition to the 12 Unit Performance Awards and an Individual Firefighter Performance Award presented during the ceremony, Battalion Chief Frank Chambers was selected to receive the inaugural Anthony M. Gallo Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his 34 years of outstanding contributions to the fire department. The award, named after Schaumburg Firefighter Anthony Gallo who was killed in the line of duty in Dec. 1977, will now be presented annually to a Schaumburg firefighter who shares firefighter Gallo's dedication and service to the citizens of Schaumburg and the Schaumburg Fire Department.
"The expectations are high and as we saw during the ceremony our personnel meet and exceed them on a daily basis," said Chief James Walters. "It is humbling to work with such a fine group."
The Village of Schaumburg congratulates all the award recipients.

LEADING WITH A DEI MINDSET
Village staff participated in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training Oct. 19. The session, which was offered to supervisory-level employees across all departments, was called “Leading with a DEI Mindset” and was facilitated by DEI specialist and coach, Farzana Nayani. Nayani and her team provided attendees with examples and tools to support DEI leadership which was offered through both small and large group discussion as well as interactive activities.
The village is partnering with Nayani and her team to assist the village in its ongoing efforts to promote DEI efforts internally and to ensure all departments reflect a work environment where employees feel supported, valued, and have a sense of belonging. This is a multi-year collaborative effort that focuses on working toward the village’s strategic goals specifically related to employee recruitment, engagement, and retention to better reflect the village’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. For more information on the village’s efforts, please contact the Human Resources Department by calling (847) 923-3900.

Local Woman's Club Celebrates EPW Staff for Make a Difference Day

Last week, members of the GFWC Northwest Suburban Woman's Club delivered 20 homemade pies for staff at the Engineering and Public Works facility at 714 S. Plum Grove Rd. The pies were provided as part of the club’s Make a Difference Day initiative which honors organizations that make a difference in the lives of others. The club chose to recognize the village’s Public Works staff as “unsung heroes” for providing essential services to the community. The village thanks the GFWC Northwest Suburban Woman's Club for the thoughtful gesture and the delicious pies. The club also coordinated their visit to coincide with the EPW’s annual Snow and Ice Inspection and Awards on Oct. 22, where crews cleaned, inspected and prepared equipment to ensure proper performance for the upcoming winter plowing and de-icing season.
