Dear Osprey Students and Families,
The next three weeks are chock full of special events and quirky schedules and we want to be sure you have all the information you need to help us all wrap up the 2020-21 school year gracefully. Please read carefully, and reach out with any questions.
In place of traditional final exams, at AHS we focus on preparing students to reflect on their learning and growth through professional presentations in front of authentic audiences. For seniors, this means Senior Project TED Talks, and for students in other grades, it's Transitional Presentations of Learning (TPOLs). Successful completion is required to graduate or move on to the next grade. We are excited to hold these important milestone experiences in person for the first time since December 2019!
As a reminder, professional dress is required for Senior Project TED Talks and TPOLs, which means students must wear a button-down shirt and tie, shirt with finished neck, sweater or blouse; a nice pair of slacks (no jeans), skirt or dress; dark socks to match trousers and dress shoes (no sneakers, no excessively high heels). Faculty will assist students in planning for these experiences. Please communicate with an adult at school if procuring professional dress clothes is cost-prohibitive; we will find a way to help.

May 31-June 4: TPOLs/Last Week of School
All 9th through 11th grade students will complete Transitional Presentations of Learnings. TPOLs are individually scheduled; student schedules will vary this week depending upon when they are completing and paneling for TPOLs. There is no school on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31 and no TPOLs will be scheduled for that date. Successful completion of TPOL is required to transition to the next grade level; it is not unusual to be asked to refine and redo a TPOL and students need to be prepared to return another day if they do not pass the first time.
Freshmen will individually present to a panel of faculty and peers; parents are welcome to attend with an invitation from their student. Ninth grade students will complete their TPOLs on Tuesday June 1 and Wednesday June 2. Any student not reaching presentation expectations will be asked to refine and make up the presentation on Thursday June 3 and/or Friday June 4. Please reference the 9th Grade TPOL Schedule here for presentation and paneling dates/times. If you foresee any issues with these dates and or times please reach out to roxy.mcknight@animashighschool.com to reschedule as soon as possible.
Sophomores will be focusing on the culture of their class, and how their values, beliefs, and behaviors contribute to building that culture. They will be asked to reflect on this year as well as look ahead to the class culture they want to create next year. This will be done in individual presentations followed by a question and answer session with a teacher and student panel. Students will be scheduled for one day of presenting and one day of paneling; all presenting and paneling will be done in their current pods. On the day they present, they will need to be here for only 30 minutes. On the day they panel, they will need to attend for the morning (8:30-12:00) or the afternoon (12:30-3:30). The schedule can be found on the pages 5-7 of this document: Sophomore TPOL Overview and Schedule. Any student with scheduling issues should contact Lori Fisher as soon as possible. Parents are welcome to attend with an invitation from their student. Students who do not meet the standard of performance on their first time through their TPOL will be rescheduled for a re-do on Wednesday June 2 or Thursday June 3.
Juniors will do individual presentations about their LINK Internships and consider next steps in their career and college paths for a panel of their peers and teachers for TPOLs; parents and LINK mentors are welcome and encouraged to attend. View the Junior TPOL Schedule here and reach out to Julian Springer if the scheduled TPOL time does not work for any reason.
The last day of school is Friday, June 4, though some 9th through 11th grade students will finish before then if they successfully complete their TPOL and paneling responsibilities earlier in the week.
There WILL be a Hub Bus from DHS to AHS on June 1-3 but NO Hub Bus on Friday June 4. There will be NO catered lunch during TPOL week.
We recognize that the end of the school year can be a bit of a whirlwind and there are many details to track. As always, we invite you to reach out with any questions or concerns. Thank you for all you do at home to support your student as we all work toward finishing the year gracefully!
