A special announcement that couldn’t wait for our regularly-scheduled Scherzo...

All the exciting details of our January Musicians in Residence!

As you may have read in the last few Scherzos, we are thrilled that our Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann and Artistic Advisor Jon Kimura Parker will be joining us on Orcas and Shaw for three action-packed days of musical education and fun: January 28th, 29th, and 30th!

Aloysia and Jackie will jump into teaching first thing Monday morning. They'll spend the day visiting a variety of strings, band, and general music classes at Orcas Public School. That evening, they'll offer masterclasses for violin, viola, and piano to local students. Space is still available; contact Tracy at (360) 376-6636 or tracy@oicmf.org by Jan. 21st to reserve your spot!
(Observers also welcome, just let Tracy know.)

Tuesday morning, the dynamic duo heads back to the school for more time with the bands and strings plus a session with the Middle School Music Appreciation class. That afternoon, they'll offer tips at coaching sessions for local ensembles. Please contact Tracy by the 21st if your group would like to participate.

At 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 29th, everyone is invited to join us for a Community Recital . Aloysia and Jackie will fill the air in the cozy Chapel at the Orcas Christian School with Chopin, Mozart, and Brahms, plus a couple of tangos to get our winter-chilled blood flowing.

On Wednesday, January 30th , it's off to Shaw Island to work with the whole school, followed by a concert for all at 6:00 pm at the Community Building.

All the teaching sessions are offered free of charge, thanks to our generous sponsors Birthe and John Gorton, Catherine and Stephen Henderson, Carolyn Haugen, Shaw Islanders Inc., and the Shaw School Foundation. Admission to the evening concerts is by donation, though you do need a ticket for the Orcas concert , available at Darvill's (suggested donation at the door $20). It will be a whirlwind - a wonderful way to end the first month of the new year!
