Miss Widner's News
Dear Parents, Students, Grandparents, and Staff,
    It is Ash Wednesday! We begin our journey, our 40 days of walking with Christ on His journey. At school, each grade has taken a Station of the Cross and has drawn a picture outside of their classrooms. I encourage you to look at their beautiful renderings of the Stations of the Cross. The students will focus on working towards acts of kindness during this Lent. Rice bowls are given to each student today. You can find these in your Wednesday envelope today. The parish has given these to the students to collect their spare change during Lent. The money will go to a charity at the end of Lent. We will also have our 8th graders performing the Stations of the Cross on Thursday, April 18 at 10:00 AM in the Church. All are invited to this beautiful prayer service.
     I hope all of you come to our Spring musical, "Into the Woods, Jr." on Friday at 1:30, 7 PM or Saturday at 7 PM. The performances are in the gym. The students in grades 5-8 are working very hard and are ready for opening night!! 
     Also, keep in your calendar our Grand Garage Sale on March 16 sponsored by the 7th graders. You can find so many treasures at this sale!! The sale begins at 8:00 AM and it is in the gym. The proceeds go towards their class trip in 8th grade. Also, on March 16-17 is the FAME Festival at the Grand Wayne Center. You can check out our students' beautiful art work as well as see our band and show choir perform!!  
     Finally, on Monday, March 11 our school will have its Diocesan one- day Accreditation visit. Our school has been preparing for this, we have National Junior Honor Society students creating an awesome video about our school, and parents, students, and staff will be interviewed throughout the day. Many thanks to those who are helping to make the day so successful!! When we have the results of the visit, we will send them home in the newsletter!

The cost of the yearbo ok is $8.00 per student and the yearbook will be in color this year!!!  PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT YEARBOOKS WERE NOT INCLUDED WITH YOUR STUDENT'S PICTURE ORDER AT REGISTRATION.

Scholarship Information
The School Choice Scholarship and Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) programs help to make a Catholic education possible for many school families who would otherwise not be able to afford it. Below you will find information on the eligibility guidelines for the 2019-2020 school year. Please take the time to read the information carefully. Some families may have students who qualify for these wonderful programs without knowing it!

A student may be eligible for an SGO Scholarship if their family meets the 2019-2020 household income guidelines in column 3 of the chart below.

A student may be eligible for a School Choice Scholarship through one of the following tracks:

* Continuing Choice Student Track - In the 2018-2019 school year, the student received a School Choice Scholarship and their family meets the 2019-2020 household income guidelines in column 1, 2 or 3 of the chart below.

* Previous Choice Student Track - In a previous school year, but not the 2018-2019 school year, the student received a School Choice Scholarship and their family meets the 2019-2020 household income guidelines in column 1 or 2 of the chart below.

* Previous SGO Award Track - In a previous school year the student received an SGO Scholarship and their family meets the 2019-2020 household income guidelines in column 1 or 2 of the chart below.

* Special Education Track - The student is a Special Education student who has a current IEP (Individual Educational Plan) and their family meets the 2019-2020 household income guidelines in column 1, 2 or 3 of the chart below.

* "F" Public School Track - The student would be required to attend a specific public school based on their residence that has been assigned an "F" grade and their family meets the 2019-2020 household income guidelines in column 1 or 2 of the chart below. Note: This pathway does not require prior attendance at the school. For a list of schools assigned an "F" grade please contact the school office.

* Two-Semesters in Public School Track - The student is an incoming student to our school who for the 2018-2019 school year was enrolled two semesters in a public school and their family meets the 2019-2020 household income guidelines in column 1 or 2 of the chart below. 
.
* Sibling Track - The student is the sibling of a student who previously received an SGO or School Choice Scholarship and their family meets the 2019-2020 household income guidelines in column 1 or 2 on the chart below. 

Note-Kindergarten students at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School are eligible to apply under the Special Education Track, the "F" Public School Track, or the Sibling Track.

Below are the 2019-2020 household income guidelines for your review to determine eligibility for a School Choice Scholarship or an SGO scholarship. How to use this chart:
  1. Identify your household size
  2. With your Adjusted Gross income for 2018 in mind, review the chart below. If your adjusted gross income falls at or below the amount on the chart for your household size you may be eligible for a scholarship.

Tennis Club

Join the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School Tennis Club!!
Open to grades 5-8
Coaches: Patrick Burton, Jen Topmiller, and 
St. E's alum/Dwenger student, Jacob Schroeder

The club was started by 2 parents 9 years ago - was an instant success, and continues to be a popular and fun activity.  No experience and experienced players are equally welcome.  They will be taught and challenged, alike. 
PARENT MEETING:  Wednesday March 13th - 5pm
at Saint Elizabeth School.  Short quick meeting - forms will be available to complete and submit.  Attendance is not required, but recommended for new parents/participants.
IMPORTANT: Please complete and submit the bottom portion of the attached/below "Registration/Schedule" AND complete and submit the "Parent Consent Form".  SUBMITTAL DEADLINE: Friday March 22nd. Instructions are included.  Route via backpack mail "Beatrice Burton 8". I need to get in our t-shirt order before spring break begins.  *Sweatshirts - we will have the same color and design as last year.  If 10+ are interested in a sweatshirt, we can get in an order.  See the bottom of the Registration form. Team Sweatshirts aren't required.  Forms can be completed/submitted at Parent Meeting too.
Cost:   $30 - includes T-shirt
Highlights:  We are hosting Angola this year :) We have 5 matches scheduled, 4 practices scheduled, and co-host the middle school tennis tournament on Saturday May 4th.  One of our matches we are hosting involves St. Charles and North Allen County Schools.  Home matches and practices are on the Homestead High School courts.

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner and Student Council will be selling Lucky Charms to grades 4 - 8 during lunch starting March 4th and ending March 14th. Students in grades Pre-k - 8 can also print the form attached to the link below and return it to school. 

Send your student a good luck charm for that test that's coming up, game, performance, and so much more! Each charm will be $0.25.

Great Lakes has made it easier than EVER for you to participate using virtual SCRIP!  Go on www.shopwithscrip.com to create your Presto Pay account which allows you to load scrip directly on your phone!  While you're at Wal-Mart or Target purchasing the Easter candy and spring decorations, you can use SCRIP to pay for all the fun and set aside those extra tuition dollars.  You can EASILY reload SCRIP cards on your account if you use the Presto Pay feature.   If you have any questions, please send us an email at scrip@seasfw.org.
 
I am excited to announce Parrish Orthodontics as a NEW Parish Rewards member!  Stop by their front desk to fill out the paperwork based off of the orthodontic treatment that you receive.   They will send the paperwork to us, along with a check and you will receive 60% back to your tuition...it's that easy!

Garage Sale News

This message is to all our generous donors who are helpfully planning on dropping off larger items such as furniture just prior to the sale so they can be directly brought into the gym. 

You can drop off these larger items Wednesday afternoon (March 13) between 3:30 and 7:30 or Thursday (March 14) during the day from 9-11 and from 1-7:30.  If you could either email me at jentopmiller@hotmail.com or text/call 260-442-9069 to let me know what/when to expect it, that would help immensely!  Please note, all other smaller items should still be dropped off at our last dropoff on Saturday, March 9th from 9-12 so that we can sort/organize for the sale.

Calling All Young Authors in
Grades K-5!

It's that time of year for Young Authors! The deadline is fast approaching. All books need to be turned into the office by this Monday, March 11th. Please make sure your book includes a cover, title page, dedication page, and body of the book. You can also include a table of contents or an "about the author" section if you'd like. All the information, including a copy of a "dedication page" is all on the school's website.
 
Winners in grades 3-5 will be invited to the Young Authors Conference at Wayne High School on April 13th where you will get to share your book and meet author, Ben Hatke. EVERY participant in grades K-5 will be invited to the Young Authors Party on Friday, March 29th.   Please contact Jessica Sindelar with any questions.

April 22-May 17th, 2019.  ILEARN replaces the former ISTEP assessment.

Robert Rogers

Inspirational speaker, Robert Rogers is coming to 
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:30 pm in the main Church. 

In 2003, Robert Rogers experienced a tragedy of Biblical proportions.  After 8 years as a father, nearly 12 years as a husband, and 13 years as an electrical engineer, Robert's life completely changed one night on their way home from a wedding in Wichita, Kansas.  Through his immediate trust in God, Robert has risen above adversity and freely shared his compelling message across the country by invitation over 1,200 times to at least 280,000 people personally, as well as with ABC, CBS, CNN, EWTN, Montel Williams, Integrity Film & Video, the Billy Graham TV Crusade, and Focus on the Family.  An accomplished worship leader, pianist, songwriter, and author of 4 books ("Into the Deep", "7 Steps to No Regrets", "Rise Above", and "Pass the Test"), Robert teaches others to Live a Life of No Regrets with his inspiring words and original songs at the piano. This is a family friendly hour presentation and we hope all of you will be able to attend!

Food Rescue

Thank You to those that have already signed-up and/or made deliveries to Charis House with our Food Rescue collections. The women and children at Charis House really appreciate our donations.  
There are plenty of opportunities still available for the rest of the school year to help out with this program. Hours for pickup at school are very flexible and can be anytime the school is open. (Note: between 12:45pm - 3:30pm on Fridays is preferred in order to include the Friday collection). Drop-off at Charis House is very easy and can be done without leaving your vehicle. If there are any questions, please contacted Jennifer Dluzak at 260-414-9257. Trine University Summer Camps

Trine University will offer a Lego Robotics Camp at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School.  The camp will be offered to 7-10 year olds on June 25-June 28 from 8 am-12 pm and for 11-14 year olds from 1 pm-5 pm.

Indiana 4-H Science of Games

Indiana 4-H Clover Gaming Connection is hosting an Experience 4-H: Science of Games event for youth in grades 7-12.  The event will be held on March 30th from 9am-3pm at 3 Locations across Indiana:

North Location - Allen County - Purdue University Fort Wayne Campu

Central Location - Hamilton County - Indiana IoT Lab Fishers, IN

South Location - Jackson County - Seymour Ag Science and Research Farm Building Seymour, IN

The goal of Science of Games is to teach youth the STEM and Creativity in order to develop a game.
Through the exploration of various topics alongside hands-on-learning, youth will learn how to:
                               
Define a Problem - engage in game mechanics/logic content
   Brainstorm Solutions - choose a board game they want to develop utilizing game design principles

Test Solutions - prototype their game with peer feedback
                               Communicate Results - game development showcase at the end of the workshops
 
The aim of this event is to help reach youth who:
1) Have an interest in engineering and this is a new area to challenge/inspire them
2) Have an interest in creative arts and want to experience a context to expressing their creativity.
3) Have no experience in either creative arts or engineering, but want an opportunity to explore a new topic- that this event does not require youth to have previous knowledge of either topic.
 
Throughout the event, youth will learn science principles and explore creativity alongside application.  Each youth will get to create their own board game to take home to continue their exploration of game design!
 
A $30 registration fee will be required for participation and lunch will be provided. Registration will close on March 22nd.
Registration is limited to 35 participants per location.
