Flourish & Bots
Flourish & Bots strives to empower 2nd-12th grade girls in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through participation in the FIRST progression of programs. This volunteer team of coaches and mentors help girls foster a love of learning and build 21st-century skills. Our local NDIA chapter was more than thrilled to make a donation to this amazing organization. You can learn more about Flourish & Bots on their website.
Battle of the Bridges
We are also so excited to make a donation to the Putnam Museum for the Battle of the Bridges held in early March! This competition was part of QCESC's 13th Annual QC Tech Challenge. In the Battle of the Bridges competition, students built a model bridge using the prescribed tools and provided materials. The winner was the one who developed a bridge with the greatest structural integrity. The QCESC, in conjunction with Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley High Schools, sponsors the annual series of three competitive events (Bridge Building, Trebuchet Egg Throw, and the Cardboard Boat Regatta) open to high school teams from Iowa and Illinois. The goal of the three events is to provide a competitive, fun, team environment to support and encourage students by empowering them with real-world, hands-on applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This includes skills such as problem-solving, team-building, and presentation skills.
