AFFCF is pleased to bring you the latest information about resources to help you and your student get ready for post-secondary studies.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS


There are currently two scholarship opportunities open for students who will be pursuing vocational programs:


The American Industries Trade Scholarship is now open and offers up to $10,000 for students nationwide pursuing a trade or vocational certification.


  •  Applicants must be: currently or formerly in foster care, between 17-25 years of age, a US Citizen, completed high school diploma or GED, and accepted into an accredited college with full-time enrollment for the 2025 school year. 


  •  Applicant must be pursuing a major in: Plumbing, Electrician, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Welding, Masonry, Appliance Repair, Tool Manufacturing, Auto Repair & Manufacturing, Industrial Mechanical Systems, Diesel Technology, Machine Operator, Metal Casting and Molding, Construction Management, Other Closely-Related Trade


  •  Early Admissions Deadline on March 28th, 2025. Additional students will be selected at the Priority Deadline on April 25th, 2025 and the Final Deadline on May 30th, 2025.

The Horacio Alger Association Scholarship is now open and has 300 scholarship opportunities available to students pursuing a trade or vocational certifications nationwide.


The National Career & Technical Scholarship, which offers those opportunities, is the first one listed. The other scholarship opportunities are specific to geographic areas outside of AZ.

NAU STAR SUMMER PROGRAM

  • Students who will be starting at Northern Arizona University (NAU) for the Fall 2025 semester can move onto campus for the month of June through NAU's Successful Transition and Academic Readiness (STAR) program


  • Benefits include becoming familiarized with campus before the start of the fall semester, taking classes to get a head start academically, meeting other STAR participants, engaging in peer mentoring, and connecting with student support services


  • Program dates are May 31st, 2025 - June 27th, 2025, all costs are paid for from students' financial aid (must be Pell-eligible)


  • Students can complete an interest form and learn more information at the link below. If selected to participate, students will be notified by NAU.

UPCOMING CONFERENCE FOR SUPPORTIVE ADULTS

If you are supporting or caring for a youth or young adult with a foster care background who is interested in post-secondary education, please save-the-date for an upcoming free conference.


Within Reach Conference

Thursday, May 15th, 2025

8:30am - 4:00pm

Mesa Community College


This is a free conference for supportive adults to learn about access to higher education in Arizona for students with foster care backgrounds.


Presenting organizations include:


  • Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation (AFFCF)
  • Arizona State University (ASU)
  • East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT)
  • Foster Success Educational Services (Education & Training Voucher funds)
  • Grand Canyon University (GCU)'s Fostering Futures program
  • Northern Arizona University (NAU)
  • Maricopa Community Colleges
