Start of School Resources
Welcome back! The first day of school for first through 12th-grade students is Wednesday, Sept. 5. For kindergarten students, the first day of school is Monday, Sept. 10. Schools will release students 75 minutes early every Wednesday, except on the first day of school.

As students prepare to head back to the classroom, we've gathered some resources to set the stage for a year of learning and growth.
New College and Career Planning Tool
Available to eighth through 12th-graders, the district's new college and career planning tool, Naviance, will help students identify their strengths, interests and goals, and link them to potential college and career pathways; providing deeper knowledge about options for the future.
September Community Meetings for 2019 Levies
Seattle Public Schools is hosting community meetings in September to share information about the upcoming Operations Levy and the Building Excellence V (BEX V) Capital Levy, both to be submitted to Seattle voters in February 2019.

The Operations Levy helps fund day-to-day operations and pays for critical programs and services not fully funded by the state.

The Building Excellence V (BEX V) Capital Levy funds capital improvements, including projects to renovate or replace aging buildings, fund technology for student learning, district infrastructure and safety.
Around our District
Jump Start Cultivates Welcoming Environments

Each year, the district welcomes incoming kindergarten students and their families to experience their school early through Jump Start, a free, weeklong immersive experience.

Sharing Your Strengths: Volunteering at School

Seattle Public Schools is partnering with VolunteerLocal to move the volunteer application process online this year. In addition to saving the environment and education funds, the online onboarding system offers many benefits to school volunteers.

School Choice Waitlist Update

District staff have been making waitlist moves since April, and staff continue to contact families as choice seats are available. Waitlists remain active until Aug. 31. Moves will continue to be made where seats are available and in a way that does not impact staffing between schools.

Student Verification Form Available on The Source

The student data verification form, which is typically sent out at the start of the school year, will be available Sept. 5-30 online through The Source. The student data verification form gives parents and guardians the opportunity to update emergency and medical information for their student.

The online form replaces the paper form sent home at the beginning of each school year and offers a secure and green alternative to the paper-based process.

24 Credits and Beyond

As part of the 24-credit graduation requirements that affects all Seattle Public Schools students beginning with the Class of 2021, students must earn at least one credit in Career and Technical Education.

Superintendent to Host Community Meetings

Superintendent Denise Juneau will host a series of community meetings to listen and learn from Seattle Public Schools students, families, staff and partners.
