Classified Employee of Year Nominations Due Friday
Employees may nominate colleagues for the annual Classified Employee of the Year Award. The award is presented to the classified employee who has exceeded expectations through teamwork, personal achievement in their work and by promoting the educational mission of the District.
This year’s winner will be recognized at the annual Classified Employee Celebration to be held at the Teacher Resource Center on Friday, May 19.
The nomination deadline is Friday, April 28 at 4:30 p.m. Click here for more information and to download the nomination form. Nomination forms also can be obtained at work sites or in the A-Z index at lbschools.net under “Employee of the Year (Classified).”

CPR, First Aid Class for Classified Employees
The Personnel Commission is offering free CPR/First Aid certification classes for classified employees on Tuesday, May 2. Classes will run from 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Teacher Resource Center (ABC Room), 1299 East 32nd St., Signal Hill.
This classified staff development event is subject to manager/supervisor approval for release time, and participants must be permanent classified employees. Priority registration will be given to classified employees working with special needs students.

Free COVID Testing Clinic for LBUSD
The free COVID-19 testing clinic for LBUSD students and staff at Cabrillo High School will continue through Friday, June 9.
PCR and antigen rapid tests are available Monday through Friday* for those who are symptomatic or potentially coming off isolation. Click here for more details.
*The clinic will abide by LBUSD holidays and close accordingly. In the event of inclement weather, the clinic will move inside a Cabrillo gym area and provide directions to participants.

Reminders from the Employee Benefits Team
- Three letters were mailed out to you. If:
- You are missing a beneficiary designated for your basic life insurance, please make sure to call our Employee Service Center at (866) 844-9744 and dial 4 to speak with a representative. Even if you didn’t get this letter, you can make a change to your beneficiary any time your relationships change.
- Your dependent(s) social security number is missing or incorrect, please take action and update as requested.
- You currently have an Flexible Spending Account, please take action as needed.
- Annual Enrollment for health benefit changes is coming up fast. If you are eligible for health benefits, look for your enrollment packet in the mail on/before May 1. Remember that all changes to your elections will be effective July 1, 2023. As always, if you currently have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and you want to continue with the new plan year (July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024) then you must elect during the upcoming annual enrollment.
