School Board Election Results

LBUSD Board of Education candidates Maria Isabel López and Nubia Flores are vying to fill the District 1 seat to replace two-term board member Megan Kerr, who ran for Long Beach City Council. A full count of the votes is expected in the coming days. As of Nov. 10, López had earned 54.59% of the vote, with Flores at 45.41%.

Strategic Planning Community Input Sessions

There's still time to voice your opinions! LBUSD is in the initial stages of creating a strategic plan that envisions what the Class of 2035 (our current Kindergarten class) would need to thrive. Attend a Zoom session or complete the online survey before Nov. 15 to participate.

Employee Updates

Retirement Planning for STRS Members


Virtual retirement seminars for employees participating in the California State Teachers’ Retirement System will be held on the following dates:


  • Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.


The presentations will be held via Zoom. Each seminar will explain CalSTRS service retirement allowance, retirement options, updates on legislation, and disability and survivor benefits. CalSTRS members are encouraged to attend if they are eligible for retirement. Staff from Human Resource Services and Risk Management will be available to answer questions.

Wellness Fair for Employees


LBUSD employees are invited to the 2022 Wellness Fair on Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 12 to 6 p.m. at the Personnel Commission site (4400 Ladoga Ave, Lakewood, CA).


District representatives and outside vendors will be in attendance to answer questions and provide information on topics such as healthy choices, mental health and financial health. Click here to send your courtesy RSVP by Nov. 18. RSVP is not required to attend.

COVID Boosters Available for LBUSD Staff and Family Members


LBUSD is partnering with Long Beach Health and Human Services (LBHHS) to offer a free COVID-19 vaccination booster walk-up clinic for LBUSD employees from 3 to 5 p.m. on Fridays, Nov. 18, Dec. 2 and Dec. 16.


All clinics will be held in the Teacher Resource Center parking lot at 1299 E. 32nd St., Signal Hill. Prior registration is not required.


It is strongly encouraged to bring your CDC vaccination card or digital COVID-19 vaccination records.

COVID Testing Clinic at Cabrillo High School Will Continue Through 2022


Free testing for LBUSD students and employees has been extended through the end of the calendar year. PCR and antigen rapid tests are available to those who are symptomatic or potentially coming off isolation.


If inclement weather happens, the clinic will move inside a Cabrillo gym area and provide direction to participants. As we get closer to holidays, the clinic will abide by LBUSD and city holidays and close accordingly.
