Dear Lamplighter Community,

The area Heads of School met today to discuss a plan of action in response to COVID-19 and the request by the medical professionals to limit the spread of this virus. The decision has been made to close The Lamplighter School effective tomorrow, Friday, March 13, and for the week following Spring Break. At this time, the tentative reopen date is Monday, March 30. Other Dallas area independent schools are following a similar plan, with some schools extending the closure for an additional week. Please read carefully below for details about the upcoming weeks.

Distance Learning:
The Lamplighter School will begin distance learning on Tuesday, March 24. The School will share online lessons four times a week for Early Childhood (Pre-K, Kindergarten, and T1) and three times a week for Lower School (Grades 1 – 4). The lessons will be accessible via SeeSaw, an academic educational continuity platform that you may access via the Parent Portal . Your child’s homeroom teacher will send an email on Monday, March 23 with instructions about how to begin this program.

Staying Healthy:
As a reminder, the preventative measures listed below are the most effective way to help reduce the spread of seasonal flu and COVID-19:
  • When school reopens, please do not send your child to school if he/she is experiencing flu-like symptoms, including a fever, cold, cough, or sore throat.
  • Instruct your students to wash hands regularly with soap and water singing the Happy Birthday song twice. Drying hands thoroughly after washing is encouraged.
  • Instruct students to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue (and discard immediately) or into his or her sleeve.
  • Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to School Nurse, Dianne Johnson. Nurse Dianne can be reached by email at [email protected].

Resources for Parents:
Jill Schroeter, Lamplighter Office of Student Life, has provided the following resources for parents about how to talk to children about the coronavirus. The articles are age appropriate and might be helpful to parents during this time of uncertainty.

School Events Update:
The following school events, scheduled during the week after Spring Break, have been cancelled. Please see below for a list of events and an associated status update.
