With the CoVid-19 situation still progressing in New York State and the requirement to strictly adhere to social distancing for the foreseeable future, the Governor has extended the school closure order through April 14. See
NYS Executive Order 3/27
(Executive Order 202.4). This
would mean that under the present order, schools - including Mountain Laurel Waldorf School - may reopen on April 15. The MLWS office will continue to operate through April 3rd, with a planned, reduced schedule (slower response time), during our Spring Break (4/6 through 4/14).
We will reassess during Spring Break and send an update if we receive an Ulster County and/or New York State Executive Order for any further school closure beyond April 15.
In the meantime, we are working on a number of critical initiatives to support learning beyond the classroom. First and foremost, we have been exploring ways to simplify and streamline all communication and classwork. In addition, we are working to solidify schedules to incorporate special subjects, the discovery room tutorials and ensure as full a curriculum as possible is offered.
We thank you for your continued support as we adjust to this necessary detour on our common journey. We don't expect anyone, children or parents, to immediately feel comfortable with remote learning; instead, our goal is to be patient and agile as we embark on this unfamiliar path together. In whatever way you are approaching this situation, we are all learning – and will continue to learn.
This moment in time is a test of and a testament to our resilience, and we have no doubt we will emerge from it stronger.
