March 18, 2020

Dear Members of the Lamplighter Community,

I am writing to you in the midst of what many have described as a generation-defining moment; and like every such moment that has gone before, it is not only the crisis itself, but how we respond that matters the most.

The Lamplighter community has responded in the best possible way. As our daily routines continue to be impacted by the spread of COVID-19, everyone is making difficult decisions that require courage and resolve. We will continue to do this guided by the best understanding and evidence of what will protect our students, families, faculty, and staff.

To this end, The Lamplighter School will extend the school closure through Friday, April 3. Suspending operations for this length of time will allow us to determine, in coordination with local health officials, whether the virus is continuing to have community spread or whether it has been contained. We have coordinated with area independent schools and will continue to evaluate whether there is a need to extend the school closure further.

Distance Learning:
The Lamplighter School will begin distance learning on Tuesday, March 24 and will continue this program through Friday, April 3. The School will share online lessons four times a week for Early Childhood (Pre-K, Kindergarten, and T1) and three times a week for Lower School (Grades 1 – 4). The lessons will be available through Seesaw, an academic educational continuity platform that you may access via the Parent Portal . Your child’s homeroom teacher will send an email on Monday, March 23 with instructions about how to login and begin this program.

The School will continue to share frequent updates with our community via email. A web page titled COVID-19 Updates has also been added to The Lamplighter School website under Campus Life. It is also accessible via the home page by clicking on the link for more information about COVID-19. This page contains helpful resources for parents as well as updates regarding school events. Thank you again to the entire Lamplighter community for your patience and support
