January 9, 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Due to the ongoing decline in air quality as a result of the ongoing wildfires, our schools will be closed tomorrow, January 10th, to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. At this time we plan to reopen on Monday, January 13th.
Due to the school closure, we will be providing grab-and-go meals tomorrow. Our nutritional services department will be distributing these free meals for TK-8th grade students on Friday, January, 10th from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Deal L. Shively Middle School.

- Encourage open conversations about your child’s thoughts or worries.
- If your child seems anxious, remind them that school staff and community helpers are working hard to keep everyone safe.
- Educational Activities
- Indoor Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of common household items or clues and send kids on a scavenger hunt around the house. Add fun challenges like "Find something soft" or "Find three items of the same color."
- DIY Board Game Creation: Encourage kids to design their own board game. Provide paper, markers, and small household items for game pieces. Once finished, play the game together as a family.
- Obstacle Course Adventure: Set up an indoor obstacle course using cushions, chairs, and other safe household items. Challenge kids to crawl under, climb over, and navigate through the course. Add a timer for a friendly competition.
We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday.
With Gratitude,
