Refuse/Recycling Cart and
Fire Hydrant Reminders

Refuse and Recycling Cart Placement
Friendly reminder! Please utilize your driveway apron or clear a portion of the parkway for cart placement. Refuse and recycling carts should continue to be placed within 3 feet of the curb or alley edge and 3 feet from any obstruction.
Snow and ice must be cleared around the cart(s) as well as the lid. Please do not place your refuse and recycling carts in the street during the winter months as it can affect proper snow removal by our village snow plow crews. Proper placement is imperative to automated collection.

From the NSFD - Adopt a Hydrant
As the snow piles up, help the Fire Department by adopting the fire hydrant closest to your home or business and keep it free of snow during the winter.
If a fire hydrant is buried by snow, it is difficult to find and valuable time must be spent digging it out. Keep snow clear in a 3-foot radius around the fire hydrant and shovel a path from the street or roadway up to the hydrant.
This will help the Fire Department in the event of an emergency!

News from the Health Department:
Did you know? Teen dating violence can be physical, emotional, or sexual, and includes stalking. It can occur in person or electronically, which includes texting, social media, and other online applications. In a recent national survey, 8% of high school students reported physical violence and 7% reported that they experienced sexual violence from a dating partner in the 12 months before the survey.
What can be done? Teens receive messages about how to behave in relationships from peers, adults, and the media. Often these examples suggest that violence in a relationship is normal, but teens need to be told that violence is never acceptable. It is important to teach healthy relationship skills by discussing and modeling respect, empathy and careful listening. Dating violence can be prevented when teens, families, organizations, and communities work together to implement effective prevention strategies.
