Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

I hope that you are having a good Holy Week and getting prepared for Easter.

As I get older, Easter and the Easter season brings more meaning to my life than it had in the past.  I spent much of Lent comparing my life with that of Jesus, especially the walk He endured at the end. All of my little difficulties and struggles are put in their proper place.  Every gift and accomplishment happens because of the grace of God.    During Lent and the Easter season I also try to view setbacks and problems also happen due to the grace of God.  When you have this type of thinking it makes each problem a little easier to face and forces us to look for solutions.  I will be the first to admit that I don’t always take on this philosophy even though it makes life easier and more rewarding.   I hope to continue with this philosophy during the Easter season and beyond.

Trivia Night is coming up on Friday, April 22nd.  You can still purchase a table this week. We can also create tables if you can’t find 8 individuals to be at your table.  This is my favorite OLOL event and I hope that you can all join us.

Enrollment for 2022-2023 going on now!

Enrollment is NOW OPEN for 2022 - 2023

  • Returning families: More info is available here
  • New families: Please share info with family, friends and neighbors.

New this year: During enrollment, you are asked to complete and submit the Parish Verification Form to obtain the Active Parishioner Rate (lower tuition). The form is due by June 1, 2022. The form and details are available on the Tuition and Fees webpage. (See additional information below from GRACE).

Enrollment: Parish Verification Form

This new process supports the meaningful relationship between our families and our GRACE parishes in harmony with our mission of growing in our Catholic faith. This process also recognizes our GRACE parishes who significantly support our schools through their financial investments.

  • Families enroll K-10 students with the Standard Rate of tuition in our TADS.com enrollment management system.
  • After enrollment, families are to complete - with their GRACE parish - the Parish Verification Form. Upon receipt of verification, the family’s TADS Billing Account will be adjusted to the Active Parishioner Rate (lower rate).
  • Your parish office will help guide you through the process of obtaining their verification. Our parishes define what ‘active parishioner’ means in each parish.
  • The Parish Verification Form and instructions are provided during the online enrollment process in TADS. Information is also available at gracesystem.org | Admissions | Parish Verification Form.
  • Please submit your completed Form which includes verification by your parish representative to GRACE Riverside Office by June 1, 2022. Tuition payments for 2022-23 begin in July annually. Submission instructions are on the Form.
  • Completed verification forms will be processed in batches at regular intervals. Each family will receive an email when their Form is processed and their TADS Billing Account is adjusted.

Counselor's Corner

It was good to see the sun last weekend!  Hope you were able to enjoy the nicer weather!

Just wanted to share some things we have been working on in my classes these past few weeks.  We have been talking about conflict and looking at ideas on how to keep the conflict from escalating and coming up with a peaceful resolution. Also, in the lower grades, we have talked about the difference between telling and tattling.  Knowing when we can solve a problem ourselves is a sign of growth and becoming more independent.

In the upper elementary, we have been talking about coping skills and strategies to help us cope with life’s challenges.

In search of items: :  If you have been doing spring cleaning like I have been and you have things you no longer need; here are some things I could use with the students.

  • Board games
  • Card games
  • Playdough
  • Legos or other manipulatives
  • Books

I use the above items to teach social skills, cooperation, problem solving and books that contain a good message.

Finally, Camp HOPE is a free weekend bereavement camp for grieving children.  We welcome kids from all over the United States, ages 5-18.  Adult family members of our youth campers are also welcome to attend Camp HOPE if they wish, and will participate in a separate peer-to-peer program located on the Lion's Campgrounds.

At Camp HOPE, kids will build connections with other kids their age who are processing similar losses and emotions.  They are invited to participate in all the same summer camp activities, such as boating, fishing, hiking, ropes courses and wall climbs, music, campfires and arts and crafts- but we also make lots of time for sharing stories about our loved ones, journaling, mindfulness yoga, building memory crafts and participating in a special candlelight memorial.

Camp HOPE will be held May 14-15 and registration is currently open until April 15th. There is also a camp in October.  https://www.camphopeforkids.org/

News from the Library

Children’s Book Week is May 2-8.

We are inviting  the students to dress as their favorite book character on Monday, May 2, to kick off the week.

On Friday, May 6, we will be sponsoring a book swap. Students can bring up to 3 books they no longer want from home to the library starting Friday, April 29.  Children who bring books will be able to choose books from the book swap tables on Friday, May 6.

For example, if your child brings 3 books, they can select 3 books.  Please put the books your child is bringing to school into a bag with your child’s full name and grade.
