Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

Happy New Year!

I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas break and are ready for a great second half of the 2022-2023 school year. This is a great opportunity to sit with your son and daughter and reflect on the first half of the school year. What worked and what accomplishments did you experience? What are some areas that I can improve? What caused me anxiety and how can we minimize it. A proper attitude is the key to improvement in any area of one's life.

I would like to thank all of you that reached out with any questions regarding the trespassing incident that occurred in the past and resurfaced on Christmas night. You can rest assured that OLOL is a safe learning environment. All locks entering the school building have been changed so she has no access to the church or school. Fr. Jim, Carol Gibson, and I will meet in January and work on long term plans for the building keys to another more modern technology. The DePere police were thankful for the security that we already have in place. Our security systems provided information to assist in generating leads and gathering evidence.

Please put Sunday, January 29th on your calendar as the start of Catholic Schools Week. We will kick it off by having our students lead the 10:15 Mass. Following Mass our OLOL teachers will be preparing pancakes and sausages for our families. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria. We hope to see you there.

Are you a hockey fan? OLOL Catholic School will once again be participating in the Green Bay Gamblers Dash for Cash. The game is on Saturday, January 28th At the end of the 1st intermission I will scramble around and try to collect as much cash as I can. In addition, OLOL Catholic School will receive $3.00 from each ticket sold. If you like hockey and are looking for some family entertainment, please consider bringing your family to the game.

Epiphany

It is a worldwide tradition in the Catholic Church to use blessed chalk on the Epiphany or during the Christmas season to bless one’s home for the New Year.

You can bless those who come and go from your home by inscribing above the door in chalk: 20+C+M+B+23

2023 is for the year and tradition tells us that C,M,B is for each of the three Magi; Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar and Christus Mansionem Benedicat, which is Latin for “Christ, Bless this house.”

Blessing Ceremony

With chalk inscribe on the top of the door: 20+C+M+B+23

Father of the family prays: May this home, signed and blessed with the holy chalk, be surrounded with God’s protection and be filled with kindness, peace, love and forgiveness. Bless all those we welcome into our home this year. Let us see the presence of Christ in all who enter our home and may we see the wisdom of God in all who sit at our table. May this be a year of blessings for all who dwell in this home.

All: Amen

All: Lord God of Heaven and Earth, You revealed Your only begotten Son to every

nation by the guidance of a star. Bless this home and all who inhabit it. May we be

blessed with health, goodness of heart, gentleness and the keeping of Your law. Fill us

with the light of Christ, that our concern for others may reflect Your love.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
