Lourdes Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

I hope that you and your family are enjoying the earlier parts of summer. I know it will go fast for all of us so please make sure you take time and enjoy the summer with your family. Family time in the summer is really important in creating successful students in the fall.

I have a few updates to pass along as we move into July.

I am pleased to welcome Jackie Pribyl to the OLOL staff. Ms. Pribyl will be teaching our 5-day 4 year-old program. Ms. Pribyl knows a little bit about OLOL as her twin sister was our long-term sub in 2nd grade, Mrs. Tomchek. You can find out a little more about Ms. Pribyl below.

I am equally pleased to announce that Mrs. Jenna Yost has agreed to a half-time interventionist position. Mrs. Yost recently served as a long-term substitute in kindergarten. OLOL has assembled a top-notch intervention team of Mrs. Sharkey, Mrs. Mirao and now Mrs. Yost. This team will ensure that each student is learning in their Zone of Proximal Development.

For the past two years our dress down day dollars have supported global missionary work through the Catholic Foundation . This year the student council elected to have funds raised to assist the communities in Vacas and Independencia in Bolivia (see page 20 of Catholic Foundation booklet). These are extremely poor communities which don’t get much international support. We raised $928.25 this year which helped provide 4 families with a garden, sheep and llamas. These families become self-sufficient by providing income by selling vegetables and wool. We thank you for your support.

Enrollment continues to slowly climb in June. We have had some additions which helps us grow to our ambitious enrollment goal of 220. If you know of anyone who is thinking about Catholic Education, please encourage them to reach out to the school office and arrange a tour. I’m especially looking for students in kindergarten, 1st and 3rd as we are extremely close to splitting those grades into 2 classrooms. We would be appreciative of any help that you could provide.

July might mean it is time to start uniform shopping. Please keep in mind the OLOL used uniform store is located in school and is open during school hours. Each item is $1.00. Please review the new OLOL dress code policy before you go shopping. Feel free to contact the school office with any questions.

Educating in mind, body, and spirit,

Jeffrey Young

Dress Code for

2023-2024

Earlier this year a committee consisting of parents, teachers, and administration met to review the OLOL dress code. We have three goals of the OLOL dress code:

  • A dress code, where all dress alike, brings unity and equality while removing judgment of social or economic background.
  • Being neat, clean, and organized in appearance is a sign of a neat, clean organized mind that is ready to learn.
  • As Christians, we are called to a sense of modesty for ourselves and others. Modesty is the act of respectfully revealing ourselves to the world in body, mind and spirit. At OLOL, a modest dress code is a sign of unity with the school, parish, and Jesus.

You will notice that the format of the dress code has changed. The new format is hopefully easier to navigate.  Please take a moment to review the dress code before shopping.

Welcome to Our Lady of Lourdes School

Hello! My name is Jackie Pribyl and I am the new 4 year old preschool teacher for the 5 days a week program.  I am very excited to be starting my teaching career at Our Lady of Lourdes and to meet everyone!

I grew up in Denmark, WI with my two sisters, one of which is my twin (she subbed this past year for the 2nd grade teacher the last half of the school year), my brother, and my parents. I attended school in the Denmark School District from Preschool all the way to high school graduation.  When I went on to continue my education that fall, I went to UW-Green Bay but decided that wasn’t the best fit for me so I made the choice to transfer to UW-Stevens Point starting that following year. I graduated in the midst of Covid with a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a teaching certificate but embraced what my calling should be with God’s guidance. I got my substitute teacher license as I was still entrusting God and the path he had given me.  I wouldn’t change that in any way as it has led me to the choice of being an early elementary teacher.

I feel so blessed to be a part of not only Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, but also Our Lady of Lourdes School. I truly believe this was God’s plan for me all along. I cannot wait for the school year to start!

OLOL Summer Reading Challenge - 2023

All students in grades Kindergarten through seventh grade are challenged to read a certain number of books dependent on their grade level.

Each child who completes the challenge and returns his /her slip by Tuesday, September 5 will receive a NUT card. In addition, the class with the highest participation rate will receive an extra recess.

The students will receive a hardcopy of the challenge sheet before they

leave for summer break. The forms are also available on the school website here.

I will be checking my email over the summer. If your copy gets lost, I can email you a new one. (sbrys@gracesystem.org)

HAPPY READING!
