Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

The changing of the leaves and the cooler temperature means one thing to me as a long-time educator: it is conference time.  My belief is conferences can be one of the more important things we do in educating children.  To get the best out of students we need to have administration, teachers, students, and families all paddling in the same direction.  Conferences are one of the opportunities that we can ensure that we are working together.

Conferences will be held in the late afternoon and early evening on Tuesday, October 25th and the afternoon on Thursday, October 27th.  All grades will have conferences except the 3 year-old preschool programs.   The sign-up for conferences will be available today at Noon through PowerSchool.   Our hope is that we are able to connect with all of you in a couple of weeks.

Those of you that are new might not know about our $1.00 Dress down days.  Approximately once a month, we have students bring in $1.00 so they can dress in on-uniform. The monies collected during the year go to assist two charitable efforts.  Monies collected in September and October help our Night of Key with start-up money for our largest fundraiser.  Monies collected in November-May will go to an organization that our student council selected during their student council elective.  Each year the Catholic Foundation lists about 30 global projects that are sponsored by Catholic organizations.  This year the student council selected to assist the Community of St. Paul who assists families in Vaca and Independencia in Bolivia.  Money collected will help families purchase llamas and create fruit trees and gardens.  These llamas and gardens help sustain families and enable them to be able to provide a source of income.  We are so proud to help these families and model a Christian value of service and charity.

Speaking of the Night of Keys, we do need your assistance to make our largest fundraiser a success.  I’m asking each family to sell at least 2 Night of Key Raffle tickets.  If we are able to do that then we will be guaranteed of a successful fundraising night.  A Night of Key raffle ticket will get an individual into the cash raffle with a chance to win $10,000 and 2 entry tickets into the event.  The OLOL Catholic School community is a great community and we would love to invite as many people to the event so they can see for themselves what a special community we have.

Night of Keys - Our 'Key' Fundraiser!

The 2022 OLOL Night of Keys event is Saturday, November 5th at The Automobile Gallery. The event features dinner, silent and live auctions, bucket and 50/50 raffles, and our marquee event - the Key Raffle drawing - for a chance to win $10,000, $3,000 or $1,000! More information will be sent home with your youngest child.

The Night of Keys is the largest and most significant fundraiser for our school,

and we need your support to make it a success.

Your TSF volunteer hours can be

fulfilled by helping with the following:

● Assisting with Key Raffle ticket phone sales (we will provide you with a script and

call list).

● Selling Key Raffle tickets after designated weekend Masses.

● Contacting businesses for donations (we will provide the materials, script and an

established list of businesses).

● Volunteering the day of the event with set-up, clean-up, and/or filling volunteer

roles the night of the event.

● Other opportunities are available such as assisting with the silent auction

(packaging items before the event) and selling advertising space in the event

program.

Before you get started, you will need your PowerSchool username and password. If you don’t have that information, please contact the school office.

  • Go to https://gbdioc.powerschool.com/ and sign in with your PowerSchool account. Please note: you can only signup for conferences on the website, not the PowerSchool phone APP.
  • Once you have logged in, you will see a menu of options on the left side. Choose “Forms”
  • A list of forms is displayed. Select the form that includes the name “Parent-Teacher Conferences”. It should be at the top of the list.
  • The child's name will be filled in automatically. Fill in the rest of your contact information, then scroll down to the PT conferences dates.

  • Click on “Navigate to day” on the left side of the screen to view which time slots are available.
  • To move to the next day, click on the right arrow on the right side of the screen,
  • You will see a list of timeslots to choose from. If it is blue it is available, if it is red, someone has already booked it.

  • Click on the time, and row for the teacher you would like to schedule. Verify that this is the date, time, and teacher you would like to schedule with. Enter any notes you would like to add, then click on the “Register” button.

  • Once you click on the “Register” button, a confirmation screen will pop up. Click on “Submit Form”

  • You have now registered for your first Parent-teacher Conference. Repeat for each teacher you would like to schedule with that student. You will not be able to book that same time period with any other teacher for that student.

  • If you have more than one student you would like to schedule conferences for, you should see a tab at the top of the screen in the blue bar showing all of your kids names. Click on the next child and repeat the steps.

Here are some things to keep in mind.

  • If you would like to change the form to Spanish and it is available at your school, you will see a dropdown menu on the right side of the screen when in the form. If Spanish is not available at your school, the dropdown menu will be blank.

  • The system will keep track of your conflicts between teachers for one student. It will not keep track of conflicts between multiple students, so be careful not to double book your time with multiple teachers during the same time period.
