Letter from Principal Young
Dear OLOL Families,
Are you looking for a way to celebrate your child’s teacher? You can do that by nominating them for a Golden Apple. The link to nominate a teacher can be found HERE. My hope is that every OLOL teacher is nominated. All of our teachers put in extra time and energy to help our students reach their fullest potential.
Thanks to all our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, great grandparents, and all special guests that came to the Grandparents Day celebration. This is a special day and shows how important family is to the education process. Seeing the folks that play an important part of educating children and supporting OLOL and our students touches my soul and heart every time I see it. More than ever we need families and schools working together for the betterment of our children.
A huge thank you to Becca Van Den Heuvel who organized the Grandparents Day afternoon activities. Thank you Becca for your commitment to OLOL, we appreciate your efforts. Thank you to Sarah Day and Christina Spierings for your assistance.
If you haven’t done so, please sign-up for parent-teacher conferences. These conferences are so important to your child’s success.
The Night of Keys is two weeks away. I have two requests. First, please purchase a Night of Key Raffle ticket. This will enter you in the drawing and admit you into the event. This is a great opportunity for our families to connect and get to know each other. The second request is to sell a raffle ticket to a friend, neighbor, coworker, or family member. If each family sells two Key Raffle tickets we will come close to our goal of raising $70,000. I can’t wait to see you at this great event!
The weather is starting to grow colder so it is time that I mention what happens if we need to close for inclement weather. You will receive a text and email stating that we will be closing. You can also follow the local news. If inclement weather, we follow the West De Pere School District closings. Hopefully we are still a month or two away from those winter weather days.

roles the night of the event.
● Other opportunities are available such as assisting with the silent auction

Before you get started, you will need your PowerSchool username and password. If you don’t have that information, please contact the school office.
-
Go to https://gbdioc.powerschool.com/ and sign in with your PowerSchool account. Please note: you can only signup for conferences on the website, not the PowerSchool phone APP.
- Once you have logged in, you will see a menu of options on the left side. Choose “Forms”
- A list of forms is displayed. Select the form that includes the name “Parent-Teacher Conferences”. It should be at the top of the list.
- The child's name will be filled in automatically. Fill in the rest of your contact information, then scroll down to the PT conferences dates.
- Click on “Navigate to day” on the left side of the screen to view which time slots are available.
- To move to the next day, click on the right arrow on the right side of the screen,
- You will see a list of timeslots to choose from. If it is blue it is available, if it is red, someone has already booked it.
- Click on the time, and row for the teacher you would like to schedule. Verify that this is the date, time, and teacher you would like to schedule with. Enter any notes you would like to add, then click on the “Register” button.
- Once you click on the “Register” button, a confirmation screen will pop up. Click on “Submit Form”
- You have now registered for your first Parent-teacher Conference. Repeat for each teacher you would like to schedule with that student. You will not be able to book that same time period with any other teacher for that student.
- If you have more than one student you would like to schedule conferences for, you should see a tab at the top of the screen in the blue bar showing all of your kids names. Click on the next child and repeat the steps.
Here are some things to keep in mind.
- If you would like to change the form to Spanish and it is available at your school, you will see a dropdown menu on the right side of the screen when in the form. If Spanish is not available at your school, the dropdown menu will be blank.
- The system will keep track of your conflicts between teachers for one student. It will not keep track of conflicts between multiple students, so be careful not to double book your time with multiple teachers during the same time period.

Digital Citizenship Week (October 17-21)
This week is Digital Citizenship Week. A week to think about the importance of helping students, their families and teachers to live well in our 24/7 digital world.
Monday, October 17
Our first goal is to build a positive community online. We can do this by remembering that words have power - power to help, to build up, to thank. Use
positive words online.
Challenge for today - send an email or a text message to someone - use positive words to thank or build up this person. Or - use positive words to thank or build up someone in person.
Tuesday, October 18
Help us learn to live happily in our 24/7 digital world. Our goal for today is to have a good media balance in our life. That means that we stop playing online games when asked to do so, we talk to people instead of playing video games, we spend time playing outside, we choose a board game instead of an online game.
Challenge for today: Play outside after school or play a board game tonight with your family instead of playing a video game.
Wednesday, October 19
Help us learn to live happily and safely in our 24/7 digital world. Our goal for today is to share information safely online. There is a difference between personal information and private information. Private information can be used to identify us and should never be shared online. We would never tell a stranger our name and our
address, we should also never post anything online that helps identify us - like name, address, phone number or school. Personal information doesn’t identify us like our favorite food or our favorite color. Personal information doesn’t tell a stranger who we are.
Challenge for today: Tell your mom or dad the difference between personal and private
information.

Next Week, we will share more digital citizenship tips.

We are experiencing a profound need for substitute teachers!
Do you possess a bachelor’s degree? Then you may be qualified to support our school through substitute teaching! A teaching degree is NOT required!
By substituting you can:
- Generate income with flexible hours you can choose! You can come and go with your children!
- Choose your buildings and types of classrooms: Your comfort and convenience are important to us! Do you only want to sub here? No problem! Open to other GRACE schools? We can include other sites that work for you!
- Sneak a hug in the hallway or have a quick lunch or recess with your student! Experience the joy on your child’s face when he/she sees you in the hallway unexpectedly!
Lesson plans and support are always provided! Please share this message with relatives or friends who may be interested. A special person to consider may be a retired grandparent who would enjoy visiting the school once a month or so! Lastly, please keep our school and staff in your prayers while we continue to navigate this extraordinary time of staff shortages. Thank you!
To help GRACE as a substitute teacher, please reach out to your school principal or visit www.gracesystem.org/employment
