Third Sunday of Advent

The Holy One of Israel Is Among You

Questions for Family Discussion:

  • This Sunday is called Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete is Latin for “rejoice”. Why are we rejoicing today?
  • How would John the Baptist want us to spend the last weeks of Advent?

Please consider reading the upcoming Sunday gospel together as a family. The questions above are good conversation starters as you prepare your children for weekly mass.
A Note from the Principal:

Dear SJE Parents,

Each year, when I look back on the year, I am amazed that all we manage to accomplish during the Advent season. Our students are so busy learning, growing, and enjoying the season. Last night’s Christmas program was a huge success. After all of the hard work on the part of our students and teachers, we are ready for a quiet week, with ample opportunity for learning and prayer. We will gather for a final prayer service next Friday morning, December 21st. Before we dismiss for Christmas break at 2:45 that day, students will take plenty of time to celebrate together. After a well-deserved Christmas break, we will be right back at it on Thursday January 3rd, ready to take on the challenges and blessings that 2019 will bring.

During January we will be preparing for the beginning of our re-enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year. The highlight of this process is our Open House, scheduled for Saturday, January 26th, from 3:00 to 4:30. Mark your calendars for this event, including the opportunity to tour our classrooms, celebrate 4:30 parish mass, and enjoy a spaghetti dinner provided by our Home and School Association. You won’t want to miss this! This is a wonderful opportunity to bring friends along to see what our school has to offer. Please consider reaching out to share our wonderful school.

Growing in God’s Love,

Mary Laidlaw Otto
Principal

Journey to Bethlehem
Our 6th annual Journey to Bethlehem experience will take place in our gym on Thursday, December 20. Our students will experience what Mary and Joseph may have experienced on their Journey so many years ago. Seventh and eighth grade students are provided costumes. Other students are encouraged to bring a bathrobe or large t-shirt to wear like a robe for this experience.

Christmas Greetings and a Snack Cart Gift Certificate
Please watch next week’s Thursday envelope for a lime green Christmas card from our specialists, Ms. Skaleki, Ms. Starks and Senorita Carlson. Each child will receive this card, with their name on it and may turn in the bottom of the card for a free snack from our Snack Cart beginning in January! This is a treat from those teachers, so please take good care of those cards!
