Family Sunday Readings

Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading I : Ezekiel 33:7-9

The wicked will not prosper.

  • Ezekiel is commissioned as a sentinel, with responsibility to warn God's people of impending danger.
  • God's message was sent to the people through the prophet Ezekiel.
  • The prophet must listen to God and deliver God's message and the people, for their own safety, must listen to the prophet and hear in the prophet's words the voice of God.

Reading II : Romans 13:8-10

Whoever loves his or her neighbor, fulfills the law.

  • The passage from the Letter to the Romans describes the unity demanded of Christians.
  • Love is the fulfillment of the Law.
  • The whole Law, in Hebrew Scriptures and in the New Testament, is summed up in love of neighbor and love of God.

Gospel : Matthew 18:15-20

When you join yourselves together in faith, I am with you.

  • The Gospel passage from Matthew contains practical advice for dealing with disagreements within the community and the theological foundation for this advice.
  • The meaning of "binding and loosing" is the power of admission and excommunication.
  • Today's passage gives the theological reason for such power. Where two or three are gathered together in unity, whether in prayer or deliberation, they will be heard by God.

"Today and every day, be a peace keeper."

Romans 12:10

Missing Keys

If anyone has found a set of keys, please turn them into the school office.

Parent Night

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for parent night. We truly appreciate you taking the time to be with us and for your continued partnership in supporting your children and our SJE community.

We hope you enjoyed the evening, connected with other families, learned a few helpful things, and of course enjoyed some ice cream!

We had 4 classes K4, 3rd, 5th, and 6th with over 80% of parents showing up. The winning class with 85% of parents attending parent night was the 6th grade. The 6th grade will celebrate their victory with an out of uniform day September 8.

Our Apologies for the Technology Issues

We apologize for the technology issues that affected our recent parent emails and newsletters. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we worked to resolve the issue. Thank you to those who responded to our test emails and thank you for choosing SJE.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

Surprise! With the heat making its presence known, we thought our students deserved a little extra comfort and fun. Students may enjoy an out-of- uniform day on Friday, September 4. Please remember all clothing should still be school appropriate and follow our out-of- uniform guidelines. These guidelines may be found on p.41 of our 2026-2027 Parent Handbook.

Parish Blood Drive

The next St. John’s Blood Drive, administered by the Christian Women Society, is just a few weeks away on Monday, September 14. With that in mind, please do not donate blood at any other upcoming blood drive; schedule with our blood drive instead. Your efforts truly make a lasting impact as our blood drive gives patients and their families the gift of a brighter tomorrow. Your generosity brings hope and healing to those who need it. Our parish goal is to collect 35 blood products to help meet the high demand from local hospitals for patients such as new mothers, car accident victims, and heart surgery patients. Each donation means three patients will benefit from this lifesaving gift.

Sign up here: https://donateblood.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/11637576.
