Family Sunday Readings
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Seek justice. Seek humility.
- In the First Reading, Zephaniah announces that the humble of the earth will find shelter on the Day of the Lord.
- The prophet Zephaniah preached at a time of great turmoil.
- This reading asserts that the humble and lowly are the hope for the future.
God chose those whom the world considers absurd.
- In 1 Corinthians, Paul tries to convince the Corinthians that their significance comes from God, and that their power is the power of the cross.
- The Corinthians, who accepted the Gospel eagerly, then began to try to outdo each other in importance, even in their Christian faith.
- Paul challenges the Christian community to rely, not on human power, but on God alone.
The Beatitudes
- Today’s Gospel begins the Sermon on the Mount, a collection of Jesus’ sayings describing the qualities of his followers.
- The way righteousness is described in today’s reading is through a traditional Hebrew form called Beatitude. Beatitudes simply declare that someone is happy or blest.
- The list in Matthew’s Gospel is surprising, however. The poor and suffering were not ordinarily described as happy.

A Message from Mr. Oberdorf
Thank You for a Successful Open House!
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make our recent School Open House such a wonderful success!
A special thank you to the parishioners who volunteered their time and talents to prepare and serve the Pancake Breakfast and and our Home and School Committee for sponsoring the event—your generosity and hospitality were greatly appreciated. We were excited to welcome eleven new families and 19 prospective students for school tours. We are grateful to the parishioners who toured the school and showed their continued support for Catholic education. From our dedicated staff and volunteers to all who helped welcome guests, your involvement reflects the strong sense of community that makes our parish and school so special.
Thank you for helping us share our mission and spirit with others!

CLOSING OF SCHOOL
Closing of school due to weather conditions is done in conjunction with the Greenfield School District. The policy is: If the Greenfield School District is closed due to weather, so are we. If Greenfield School District has a bus delay, our school will still open on time.
For any emergency closing at St. John’s, we will contact you via email and our school website. Normally, we will not close school in the middle of the day. You may pick your child up if the Greenfield School District closes early.
Basketball Season- Concession Stand Help
Volunteers are needed to help in our concession stand and collect admissions. It is a great way to socialize, meet new people, and help our school.
There are opportunities available for students in grades 5-8 to complete service hours. If you and/ or your middle school child are interested in helping out please use the link below to sign up today.
