Family Sunday Readings
Third Sunday of Easter
My heart has been glad.
- In the first reading from Acts, Peter tells the story of Jesus.
- For the Israelites, the Resurrection is a sign that Jesus is the “anointed one”.
- Today’s passage reveals that Jesus is both Lord of heaven and the Messiah sent to save Israel.
It is through him that you are believers.
- Today’s letter from 1 Peter aims to encourage Christians to remain faithful in the face of hardship.
- The Israelites’ journey through the desert is compared to the journey of the Christian life.
- For Christians, salvation is ours when we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, sufferings included.
Were not our hearts burning within us as he spoke?
- In today’s Gospel, a stranger joins the disciples as they journey to Emmaus.
- It was not unusual for a person living in the region at the time to invite a stranger to be their guest and share a meal.
- The stranger/guest in today’s Gospel suddenly becomes the host, and the disciples receive from him the Bread of Life.

A Message from
Mr. Oberdorf
JOG Presentations May 11 and 12
This year our 8th grade students will continue the St. John’s Justification of Graduation (JOG) tradition on May 11th and 12th. Our 8th grade students will present to their parents, mentors, and members of the parish and school community how SJE has prepared him or her for the future.
Would you be interested in being a part of the viewing panel? As a member of the panel, your job is to sit back and listen to the accomplishments of an 8th grade student in the areas of Catholic faith, academics, service, extra-curricular activities and their future plans and then offer positive feedback.
Please consider being a part of this event. Each powerpoint presentation should last approximately 20 minutes. We would like you to consider listening to 2-3 students’ presentations. Two presentations will take about one hour.
Presentations are scheduled for:
May 11, 2026 8:30-11:30 and 12:30-2:00
May 12, 2026 8:00-11:30 and 12:30-2:00
If you are interested, please contact Mr. Oberdorf at 414-321-8540 or email boberdorf@sje.school by April 30 to let us know of interest and availability.
Reading Rockstars for March
Each month, students in grades 2-8 have reading goals to encourage strong reading habits. The class with the highest percentage of students meeting their goals earns the traveling reading trophy for the month.
And March brought an incredible surprise… a THREE-WAY TIE!
With an outstanding 100% of students meeting their reading goals, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade all earned top honors this month! What an amazing accomplishment and a true testament to their dedication, focus, and love of reading.
Way to go, Reading Rockstars!

Compassion in Action!
Almsgiving in action! Throughout Lent, our NJHS students held a drive for various products, from hygiene to baby care, cleaning items to school supplies, and more. Each week the group used their recess time to collect each classroom's donations, and sort them into categories. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity of our school and parish families! We thank you so very much! These donations will make their way to local organizations: Robyn's Nest, Kathy's House, and the Milwaukee Diaper Mission.

Commendation for St. John the evangelist Students
Our students are awesome! I would like to share an email I received from Br. Jose Maria Vera, the director of the Capuchin Spiritual Center at St. Francis commending our students on being outstanding volunteers.
Dear Mr. Oberdorf,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to commend St. John the Evangelist School, as well as three of your students, Oliver W., Daniel P., and Isaac P., for their outstanding assistance recently.
I had the opportunity to witness these young men in action, and they represented your school exceptionally well. They generously volunteered their time from 1:30 to 7:30, and their hard work made it possible to accomplish far more than would have been manageable alone.
In particular, I would like to highlight their service during Mass. Isaac served at the altar, while Daniel and Oliver assisted as ushers. All three carried out their responsibilities with reverence, attentiveness, and a clear sense of purpose.
It is evident that, in addition to the strong support of their families, the formation they receive at St. John the Evangelist plays a significant role in fostering both their work ethic and their respect for the liturgy. Their conduct was truly commendable.
Please extend my gratitude and appreciation to Oliver, Daniel, and Isaac. They should be proud of the example they set.

Safe Environment Week April 19th -April 25th
The Archdiocese of Milwaukee recognizes April 19th–April 25th as Safe Environment Awareness Week. Each year in the month of April, which is recognized around the country as child abuse prevention month, we dedicate a week to elevating the general awareness of the Church’s efforts to keep our children safe. We want people to know that we are committed to maintaining safe environments in our parishes and schools through adult child abuse prevention training; criminal background checks for all clergy, volunteers working with minors, and employees; safety training for children in each grade level; and adhering to all mandatory reporting requirement laws.
