Gospel Reading for Sunday, September 9th, 2018

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Be Open

Questions for Family Discussion:

  • What was the problem the man Jesus cured had?
  • What did Jesus do to cure the man?
  • Think of a way that you can be Jesus’ compassionate face or hands, or a voice for someone this week.

Please consider reading the upcoming Sunday gospel together as a family. The questions above are good conversation starters as you prepare your children for weekly mass.
Classes have begun using our new science lab. We can't wait to see what exciting experiments will take place here.
We hope you enjoy the new format of our newsletter. We think you'll find this style easier to read both on your computer and mobile devices. If you have difficulty accessing the information, please let us know.
A Note from the Principal:

Dear SJE Families,

Thanks to all who took the time to attend our fall Open House last Thursday. Approximately 70 % of our families were represented. Of course, I always hope for 100%, but I do understand that sometimes other commitments interfere. Our students are settling in nicely. Our upper grade students are enjoying their move to the second floor. They love their new science exploration space, and, of course, are adjusting to using their lockers.

We are praying for some cool fall weather, allowing our fields to dry up, and our students to enjoy soccer!

We have a number of events coming up in the next few weeks, including a trip to serve at St. Ben’s, and a trip to the Hunger Task Force Farm. Take a good look through the Thursday envelope today, checking for permission slips and other important information.

Growing in God’s Love,

Mark your calendars for our annual
Fun Run and Tailgate Party
to be held on  Friday, September 21st.

Our students and parents alike look forward to this event. Beginning at 5 PM, students and parents will have the opportunity to walk or run around our 1/2 mile track up to 6 times! Parent and teacher cheerleaders will be on hand to provide encouragement. Please note that all walkers and runners need to complete a hold harmless agreement, enclosed in today’s Thursday envelope.

Following the run, families will be treated to a tailgate party. Food will be provided. Our playground will be open for children. Parents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs if the weather is nice, so that they can spend time socializing. This is the perfect opportunity for our new families to spend some time getting to know our community.

Many volunteers are needed to make this event a success. The Sign-Up Genius email for this event will emailed to families next week. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity for fellowship and fun!

Afterschool Playground Etiquette

Many of our families love to enjoy a bit of relaxed playtime after school.  Families are asked to abide by our playground rules:

  1. Students may not, under any circumstances, climb trees.
  2. Students in second grade and under may not hang from the climbing equipment. Students who are in third grade or older may hang from the bars, complete pull ups, or swing on the rings.
  3. Students are not allowed, under any circumstances, to climb on top of any of the climbing equipment.
  4. Students should not be playing around the soccer fieldhouse. They should remain within easy view of their parents.
  5. Sitting on the picnic tables in front of the fieldhouse is fine. Climbing, walking on or jumping off picnic tables is not acceptable.
  6. Our office is open until 3:15 PM. During that time, we often have staff meetings, and are not always available to answer the door. We recommend that students use the bathroom between 2:45 and 3:00, when visitors are still coming and going from the school.
The rules for the playground are clearly communicated to our students daily. If you are unclear about any of the rules, please ask your students what is expected of them during the school day.
