Family Sunday Readings

Fifth Sunday of Easter

Reading I : Acts 14:21-27

They assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them.

  • The reading from Acts describes the return of Paul and Barnabas to Antioch to report on the success of their missionary efforts.
  • They help the new Christians organize their small communities.
  • The Christian communities are encouraged to persevere in spite of the suffering that their new faith might bring them.

Reading II : Revelation 21:1-5a

God will wipe away all the tears from their eyes.

  • The vision from Revelation is a description of God’s final victory over evil and the establishment of the kingdom in its fullness.
  • Jerusalem, the city of God and God’s people, comes from heaven and is made new by God.
  • The new community is represented by love for God and for one another.

Gospel : John 13:31-33a, 34-35

Love one another!

  • The Gospel presents the heart of Jesus’ message: “Love one another as I have loved you.”
  • Before the passage, Judas left to betray Jesus.
  • The glorification of Jesus happens through betrayal, suffering and death.

A Message from Mr. Oberdorf

Justification of Graduation (JOG)

This year our 8th grade students continued the St. John’s Justification of Graduation (JOG) tradition on May 7th and 9th. Our 8th grade students prepared a 20 minute presentation to share with their parents, mentors, and members of the parish and school community about their experience at SJE and how these experiences have prepared them for the challenges of high school. Each soon to be graduate shared how he or she has grown in faith and academics. The presentations were excellent. Great job 8th graders!

Meditation Garden

Please sign up if you want to share your time and talent to help in the garden located by the playground this summer.

Please contact the Rios family by email.

Meditation Garden

We hope this message finds you well. As summer approaches, we are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity to contribute to our community's meditation garden. This is the garden opposite the playground. Last year, we cleaned up the space and planted donated plants from our parishioners. Our next step will be to monitor what plants take root and to redefine the walking paths. We hope to plant again this fall and create a space with color, spring, summer, and fall. We also have some benches and a pergola being built by our Boy Scouts to add to the space. We are seeking volunteers to help weed the meditation garden once a week from July 2025 through August 2025.

How to Sign Up: Please contact Amanda Rios at amandavillanirios@gmail.com to express your interest and availability.

We appreciate your support and look forward to working together to establish our new meditation garden.

Warm regards,

Shane and Amanda Rios
